03 Civic LX with keyless or without
03 Civic LX with keyless or without
My girlfriend has an 03 Civic LX. It has power locks, but did not come with remotes when she purchased it. I have read that it may have keyless because it is an LX and it may not. How can I check?
Also, if it doesn't what seems to be the easiest install of aftermarket units?

Re: 03 Civic LX with keyless or without
that system would be listed on the car when originally purchased, it could be as simple as needing a fob switch that goes on your key ring, or may need a module to tie into the door lock actuators, take it to a dearler and see if they can check the vin, service will want to charge for an inspection maybe but go to the parts guy and see if he knows how to verify.
If you're good with tools you can see if you can find it yourself.

Re: 03 Civic LX with keyless or without
Aftermarket keyless entry systems are crap and are always a bit dodgy, you could pick up the keyless entry module and harness for dirt cheap at a local junk yard and then just buy two fob's and have them programmed (sorry forgot to add this)
Re: 03 Civic LX with keyless or without
I hoped it would just be a fob, but I haven't called a parts person to find out yet.
I looked at the junkyard, but it didn't seem like I could easily remove the wiring harness on the factory installed ones. It'll be warmer this weekend, so I may try again.

Called the dealership and it didn't have remote keyless entry factory.
I may make a dash for the junkyard tomorrow morning in hopes of snagging the wiring and parts.

Went to the junkyard this morning, the module comes out relatively easy. However, the harness is not separate on factory key-less cars, making removable nearly impossible.
You could remove the harness, but I imagine it would take a few hours. I am back to square one finding an aftermarket kit, that works well.

I think I am going to get a Viper 211HV and add an Accord power truck release.
Where is the best place to tap or plug an additional 12v constant?
Where is the best place to tap into the door lock or unlock wires?
Where is the best place to mount the receiver?

Having the trunk popper would be nice.
(1) You may have to go through firewall or maybe try the constant source at the headunit.
(2) Possibly under the drivers side kick panel, I can get you the wire colors if you need them.
(3)Not a whole lot of room avail, you will have to look around.
