Lights On Alert/Beep

Hi all
I did a search and didn't find anything on this.

Not sure where to even start looking for this problem but, you know the sound that beeps when you shut the car off and open the door and the lights are still on? Mine isn't working and I have had to jump the car twice because of forgeting the lights are on!

2001 Civic LX

thanks

Re: Lights On Alert/Beep

Does your dome light come on when the drivers door is opened and dome is set to "door" ??

If no... check the rubber covered plunger switch for drivers door.

Service manual points to loose connections or Multiplex Control Unit (MCU). Look for loose connections at the door plunger and at the MCU (it's part of your under-dash fuse/relay box).

Re: Lights On Alert/Beep

So it's a DX then ?? That could be the case if so. The op has an LX which does have the warning... not sure about DX

You could make your own warning using a piezo buzzer pretty simply.

Re: Lights On Alert/Beep

They once were common at the auto parts store, maybe still are ??

A google search has some info.

You would need to locate the taillight switched voltage source and tap in to it (iirc it is located in the plug for the audio system, the wire color used is RED/BLACK) It has 12volts present whenever the headlight switch is on.

Re: Lights On Alert/Beep

I have a 2002 Civic EX and have had the same problem (leaving my lights on because my brain is already on to the next thing when I park and no beep to remind me). I moved to San Francisco (i.e. constant fog, overcast days and need my lights on during the daylight hours) 2 years ago and have had my battery die 5/6 times since so this problem is a constant headache.

CraigW - Is there a place where I can look to find out if my car even has this feature? I bought it used and its never had the beep but might be a fuse that's dead.

Re: Lights On Alert/Beep

^^ It was standard on my 05 LX...I would certainly think it would be standard on an EX.

Does the dome light come on with drivers door open ??

My plunger switch got disconnected. Had to fish it out and reinstall. All working now, thanks for the insight.

Re: Lights On Alert/Beep

This is a simple fix. You can buy the Piezo buzzer at radio shack. If you do not have one nearby, you can purchase it on eBay from the Radio Shack Ebay Store for $4 with free shipping. The link to the article where I got the information is below. Good luck.
