Re: lights dimming help
i know this will suck but take the alt back off and have an auto store bench test it. in my last car i would go thru alternators every month til i found one that lasted longer. reman alts (esp the cheaper ones) dont always have the best quality. but sometimes they do.

Re: lights dimming help
if you have access to something that can crimp 4ga cable, then maybe. otherwise, you'll need to buy set screw ring terminals at $10 per pair, you need 5, so $30 just in ring terminals. add a clamp at $10, and you do the math. do my supplies cost that much? no, but i buy clamps 30 at a time and ring terminals 100 at a time, and cable in 500ft rolls, plus i have a crimper that will do up to 1/0ga cable.

3 ft of 4 gauge wire, at about $2 per foot on ebay, so $6
box of 4 gauge terminals at home depot for 3 bucks, i think
and a battery terminal, from walmart
i had 10 ft of 1gauge wire from my friend
bought the terminals at home depot, and had a batt terminal laying around
used a creme brulee torch to heat up terminals, and melted solder inside terminals to wires, they are rock solid connections
Again, if you don't have the time or ingenuity to do your own big 3 upgrade, buy from electric.
