gauge issues. Ramdonly Odometer shows 8888888 and gauges just die
Hi,
I have a CIVIC EX 2001 and I have some problems with the gauges and display.
The odometer randomly shows trip AB888888 and the needles sometimes just die meaning just mark 0. Something that I noticed is that the battery light in dash blinks but only when I put the ignition and the display shows the 8888888. When It works fine, the battery light works fine.
It seems to be a grounding issue but I already checked almost all the wiring.
Every other light in the dash like the brake light, the CEL, the highbeam etc work fine.
Sometimes without any particular reason everything works fine.
I have read a lot about the same issue on the website but could not find an answer.
Do you have an Idea of what could be the cause of that issue?

check fuse # 9 under hood and #10 under dash. Then run a diagnostic:
1. push and hold trip/reset button
2. turn lighting switch to ON
3. turn the ignition switch to ON(II)
4. within 5 seconds, turn lighting switch OFF, then ON and OFF again
5. within 5 seconds, release the trip/reset button, then push and release the button 4 times repeatedly
results: "88888.8" is normal. if "Error" appears there is malfunction in communication line between gauge assembly, multiplex control unit, and ECM/PCM

CO-CO-CO-COMBO BREAKER!
Seriously though, I thought the combination to reset the maintainence CEL was a long combo. It feels like I am entering cheats into my nintendo.

Thanks a lot.. I will try and come back later..I was reading and found also a TSB from Honda about it, the number is TSB #020103.
I will check.. They talk about the self diagnostic proceduce in the body electrical section of the SM that I think is what you described.
