intermittent gauge fail(speedometer, tachometer, oil gauge)

I have a civic 2001 ex. Auto Transmission. Recently, I encountered intermittent gauge fails (all of them, speedo, tacho.....)

Everything is normal in day time. It happens after dark, 10 PM or later. Quite repeatable. I turn on the engine. I see nothing. But everything works. Works I mean such as, mileage meter is correct in the morning; trip meter mileage number is correct. It is just the gauges. I see nothing there.

Everything goes back in the morning, afternoon.

I am guessing it is something related to temperature and cluster?

I am trying by myself.
Anything would help before I go to the dealer. Thanks.

Re: intermittent gauge fail(speedometer, tachometer, oil gauge)

Could be as simple as shoddy wire connections. Look behind your glove box and the plugs going into your cluster for anything that might look awry

Re: intermittent gauge fail(speedometer, tachometer, oil gauge)

I know I had a problem when my tach randomly went out.. I looked behind the glovebox to see the tach signal wire more-or-less sheared. Then again, I do have a VAFC-II tapped into that wire and it was product of shoddy wiring, but that's neither here nor there.
