Full Speaker Installation Question
Full Speaker Installation Question
Hi guys, I would appreciate some help.
I've got a 2004 EX coupe that just had a speaker go out so I figured I would replace the speakers.. I have a couple questions though. I'm planning on going with the following:
Alpine SPR 17S Component System
Alpine SPR 69C Rear Speakers
Alpine MRP-F300 Amp
I already have a Pioneer DEH-P3000IB head unit installed.
1. With just a 3/4" spacer I can make the 17s fit without modification correct?
2. Do I disconnect my stock tweeters or mount the tweeters that come with the 17s in the stock location or how exactly does that work?
3. Will the F300 be enough juice at 4x50w to power each of the speakers?
4. What other equipment would I need besides what will be in the boxes to complete installation?
5. I can get all this brand new for $375, would there be a better option than what I'm looking at?
Sorry for all the newb questions, just trying to make sure on all this. Thanks in advance.

Re: Full Speaker Installation Question
If you are not particular about your music, or audiophile
I suggest not even using an amp, and just get speakers (maybe cheaper speakers)
(the only reason i suggest this, is because you will have to run speaker wires throughout your car, instead of using your stock wires)
I never took apart the stock tweeters, but i looked behind them, and it is just a screw to take it out, im sure its pretty straight forward to install them
Extra equipment :
-Civic Speaker harness Adapters (if you do not use amp)
-Speaker Wire + terminals (if you use amp)
-Brackets (http://cgi.ebay.com/HONDA-Civic-Spea...item3a59c6e208)
Perfect size and fit, from metraonline, minor drilling needed, with
-some self tapping screws
Other notes:
-I would look into some polk audio speakers for that price
-yes 4x50 will be sufficient to push the speakers, however, some decks, like my sony xplod already pushes 4x52, but amp will produce clearer music
-I had the option to choose between a set of polks and infiniti, i tested both, polks produce nicer music, but infiniti produces more bass
-Are you sure that is an infinity? because SPR 17S's are Alpines, Infinity 6.5"'s are reference speakers

Re: Full Speaker Installation Question
Wire kit should include at least
4 Gauge Power Wire
4 Guage Ground Wire
RCA Cables
In-Line Fuse
I also, would never spend more than $100 on alpines. infinity, maybe
I bought a set of brand new Polk DB651S 's at Fry's Electronics for $50
If you want to spend about $300, i say at least go for
Polk, Pioneer, Infinity, Rockford Fosgate, JL audio
Dont go for Kenwood, Alpine, Sony, or any brand you've never heard of
KW, Alpine, Sony are decent, if you're just upgrading your stock speakers from 1995 car, and only have a $20 budget, otherwise, if you want some decent to good music, go higher
If you go low, you will only regret that you didnt buy something better
I am totally satisfied with my Polk 6.5"/JL Audio 12" setup
I even took out my 6x9's because I didnt need them

Re: Full Speaker Installation Question
you may need to dremel out a bit to fit the front speakers (I have the Alpine SPR-17C's up front, I can't imagine the construction on the back of the speaker would be too different. Maybe the rear speakers, too. If you buy a speaker install kit (which usually comes with the spacers and whatnot that you need) they should come with tapping screws and speed nuts to mount the speakers. I was able to just use the included spacers to mount the front speaker.
Also, depending on the depth of the rear speakers, you may need to remove your trunk springs, too. I thought I had enough room with my Infinity reference speakers I got, but the magnet was too big by about ¼"
here's a pic of how much I had to shave in the front (with the spacer mounted, still). Don't mind the rust, and you can see the Honda speaker pigtail adapter I used to wire up the speaker

@ Riceboy
I didnt have to cut anything to fit the speaker in, instead i broke off the plastic and surrounding foam that surrounded the stock speaker in the door panel to fit the speaker in.
Stock Speaker:

Metra bracket from ebay:

Polk's installed:

Re: Full Speaker Installation Question
Cool. Good to know.
In retrospect, I don't have the component system, so that's probably why mine required a little trimming to fit.
