New sealed sub box

Hey guys, I was busy today constructing my first ever DIY sub box. Total cost was about $38!!! It's 1.34 ft^3. I'm putting an Image dynamics 12" DVC 4ohm sub in with a Soundstream Rubicon 1.400 amp. The box took me about 4 hours to finish but I think the time was well worth the savings! I used 3/4" MDF. It measures 13.5" tall x 23" wide x 8" top depth x 14" bottom depth. I angled the back to make it so it rests flush against my 05 EX SE seats for maximum trunk space. I contemplated making braces for it, but the design feels very sturdy so I decided against it. I'm going to drill a small hole to insert speaker wires, then seal w/ caulk. Let me know what you think.

Looks pretty good

for the speaker wires, instead of drilling a hole and sealing it with caulk, you can put a terminal plate, like these ones:

or
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2103794

I have the first one on my box, and I terminated my speaker wires from my amp to banana plugs, making it all plug and play. I have mine sealed in place with silicone.

Thats another option to give you a little more of a professional look and in the case you have to take the box out, you can just disconnect the wires from the box and drag it out.

Yeah, i like that idea of being able to take it out if needed. Of course once I get some L brackets in there, it will be a bit more cumbersome but still doable. I've heard mixed reviews about those plates though...as far as leaking, so I'm a little concerned.

Walmart has a 12" box at about that price, probably could have saved four hours. But, it looks good nice job, I agree with using the terminal plate makes things very simple if you ever need to remove your sub to put something in the trunk.

Yeah, i also found one on amazon too, the problem is that the dimensions were not customized to a civic so it would have taken up more space than necessary because it wouldn't have been flush against the back seat (and i needed around 1.25 ft^3).

Yeah, there is a range for type of listener large - 1.5, normal 1.25, and small 0.8. Mine will be 1.27 after sub displacement. Not really sure what "type of listener" means, but I shot for the middle.

after i put the wires from the plate to the sub, i sealed the whole backside of the plate to the box with caulk. no leaks, so much cleaner look from the outside, and easier to change wires, position, remove the sub, etc. also you can see in the pic below how i used hinges (due to the odd angle needed) to secure my sub box so it wasn't sliding around.

Re: New sealed sub box

nice! I think I'm going to go with this idea. It ensures that there are no leaks. Found it posted on another forum, pretty clever, just have to make sure you use brass.
