Issue with Radio
Issue with Radio
In my 2005 Civic Sedan MT i just installed some subs and an amp. Instead of changing the stock deck, i wanted to keep everything as stock as possible, but still I wanted some nice bass. (I'm a bass head, im sad to say lol) So i ran one of http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2102959 (although a lot better quality...this is just an example of the wire type i used) I ran the bare ends to the right rear speaker in the trunk, and plugged the RCA into the amp. I ran all wires (Batt, GND and REM) correctly (tapped the REM wire to the Cig Lighter fuse under the steering wheel). After I re-connected the battery, the stereo needed the code to be entered...I called the dealer, they gave me my code. After I put the code in, the clock was blinking 1:00 and I couldn't change anything, and I couldn't hear anything. THe CD loaded and I could adjust the Bass, Treb and Fade/Bal. then the radio just cut off after I moved the amp in the trunk to the right place to be mounted. I checked the fuses, under the dash, and they were good. My radio still wont come on. Is there a fuse in the stereo like in aftermarket ones? and was this the wisest way to keep the system as stock as possible or is there another way (besides a RCA converter box)?
Thanks for reading if u got this far lol

Re: Issue with Radio
Oh yea, and now my remote keyless entry fob isn't unlocking the car...power locks work, and key fob battery is good, but when i hit Lock or Unlock, nothing happens outside...hmmm...any ideas anyone?? help would be great! lol
Re: Issue with Radio
I would double check entering the code. If it is blinking then it is not a blown fuse to the radio. You should still hear music out of the stock speakers since you only tapped the rear speakers
Re: Issue with Radio
well i tapped the one left side rear speaker to run the amp in Mono. problem is, is that the stereo isnt coming on at all...like i said, the fuse under by my knee is good, but im really hoping I dont have to pay for a new stereo. im bringing in my car tomorrow to get an oil change and to have them look at it, my cars still under warranty anyway. i guess ill just rip everything out tonite before i bring it to them tomorrow. i was just hoping that the stereo isn't fried, just something needs to be reprogrammed...my key fob wont open or lock the doors, when i turn the car off all my Dials (RPM, GAS, TEMP, etc) stay up now, unlike how the car is supposed to be where the dials all fall when the key is removed, etc. i rly hope i didnt fkcu anything up lol

I find it hard to believe tapping into the rear speakers would cause the radio to fail, unless the deck is sensing a different OHM load and shutting down.
Hey try this: Disconnect the rca from the rear speaker, and try to program the radio again.
Re: Issue with Radio
did that...what happened was i put all the wires and stuff into the car 2 nights ago...thats when i reconnected the batt, and needed to enter the code...i called the dealer, they told me they'd call me back the next morning since there was no one in service at that point (8:45pm). So i called THEM yesterday morning, and they gave me my code no problem. I was in my car with them while i was on the phone. After i enterd the code they gave me, I said thank you and hung up. There was no sound coming out of ANY speaker, not even the subs...so I figured the RCA (which, the bare ends, I stuck into the OEM harness that goes onto the speaker posts and put the harness back on, with the wires held in by the clip) was loose, or crossing, so I jiggled the RCA thinking if that was the case, then sound would sort of flicker in and out, so I knew where the problem was...Well, when i jiggled the wire, the subs made a quick burst of sound, then I went into the driver's seat and tried the radio, but it was off...that's when I realized something happened that wasn't to my benefit. I checked the fuses, and I even checked the fuses that I thought would correspond to the problem, but every fuse (in car and under hood fuse boxes) were good. Now i can't seem to put together why my power locks ONLY work when the car is ON or when the car is runing...if the key is in but not turned, no locks, and the key fob wont work. what does the radio have to do with the PWR locks? and also, as I stated above, the dials (RPM, etc) stay in the position they were in when the car was turned off (ie. RPM stays at ~900rpm as if it were still idling, and GAS stays where it was as well) but when I put the key back in and turn it to ACC or ON, the dials fall really quick and sort of demented like (not smooth, they kind of fall jaggedly). I dont know WHAT the eff is going on lol the service manager at my dealer said he has no idea why all of that would happen if the radio blew or something like that. Also, whenever I get in the car and turn it on, the Gauges lights are dim, even though every time I see it i turn the brightness all the way up, it's still dim when i turn the car back on after I leave it. help meee!! lol any ideas? does the radio haold the car memory? that would explain why the brightness doesn't "Save" it's setting, and maybe the key fob code is stored in the radio?
jeez i type a lot lol sorry

I wonder if it is a Multi plex issue that is common with 7th gen civics.
Re: Issue with Radio

Re: Issue with Radio
ill run out and check again...didnt pull the fuse just now, it looks as though its ok, but ill get a fuse puller and check it the real way (my fuse puller tha comes in the fuse box is at my house, im at work right now lol)
Re: Issue with Radio
ok it turns out the Back Up fues (#9 10A red mini spade fuse under the hood box) was blown...replaced with an existing spare 10A red fuse, radio turned on and key fob and power locks work....didnt check the gauges yet, but the radio (after putting in my code again) still isnt making sound, i checked the speaker connection where I plugged the RCA in originally, and the speakers are all connected...so why is there no sound coming out now? not in Tuner or CD...radio works fine, though. is this still bad news for my OEM deck?
