2002 Civic speedometer gets stuck and lags
2002 Civic speedometer gets stuck and lags
Sometimes especially when it's cold outside my speedo doesn't show the speed properly - like when I accelerate - as I go from 0 to 40 it jumps up to 15, stays there and then jumps to 40, and when I slow down it stays on 40. It works fine on freeway speed but not on street speed.
Any ideas what the problem is?
thanks

could be bound up mechanically or a wire could be loose. if it's the same speeds it sticks at, probably bound up. you could take your dash apart and try to carefully free it up.

Re: 2002 Civic speedometer gets stuck and lags
i had that problem too with my old cluster and had to gently pull up the needle a tiny bit. it was binding on the gauge face and sometimes getting stuck. could also be the magnet motor getting weak. the newer led clusters are so much better, even over big bumps and rough areas it keeps good readings. i would look into swapping in the newer style from 03-05 lx/ex civics. theres a thread that shows how to rewire the connectors.
