Installing oem style foglights on a '05 civic
I got a set of oem style fog lights for christmas, the problem is they never came with any instructions at all to install them. I did some researching and got a bit of help. Seems that alot of these kits have different wiring harnesses. Mine came in 3 pieces, so today i put them together and laid them out on the floor to get a better idea of what to do. So i labeled a few pics and hopefully i can get a few answers.

The first pic i guess is what would be called the switch harness, from what i can pick out, i have the relay, ground for the switch and there's one wire on the end... i dont know what really its for. My guess would be it goes plugged into the fuse box? Second harness plugs in and has a grommet... so i guess this leads inside the car somehow... then the third harness is routed through the front, with the two plugs on the end for the lights and one ground for the lights. Does this make any sense, if not could someone point me in the right direction? really need the help haha.

may want to read the instructions on handaaccessories.com for the oem fogs. it should give you an idea where the interior connectors and stuff go. its kinda complicated.

I already did, and it seems kinda confusing. don't even seem like the actual oem harness is anything like whatever it is i have here... these are more like ebay fogs but the harness is slightly different...all i wanted to know is if im on the right track or what is wrong? just look at the pictures lol

i think the plugs go somewhere in the car, since technically all the civcs are "prewired" for fog lights. so you just gotta find the empty connectors and plug them into the ebay kit.

Alright, i got the lights installed into the bumper, the harness ran into the lights... im just not exactly sure how it runs inside the car? i seen on most diy's it runs inside the fender well and into the passenger side by the glovebox... Problem is inside the fender well i dont see any passage leading inside the car? what do i do?

looking at the harness, i'd say it's going to come through the firewall on the drivers side somewhere. it doesn't look long enough to make to the passengerside. most switches like that can't handle the high current of lights. the relay allows the switch to turn on the relay with minimal current draw and then the relay bears the burden of the high current draw. same thing with your headlights. they have relays too. think of a relay as an electrically controlled switch. i'd say that most of your numbered labels look right though.

^ Yes, i routed the wiring to the drivers side... i been working nightshifts this week so the past couple days i been working on it and finally got them working. The wire with the mini fusebox plugs into the cars fuse box, but by doing this, there is always constant power going to the lights. even with the key out of the ignition the switch stays lit and you can turn on the lights... So my theory is to tap into the positive wire for the 12v cigarette lighter... since the power to it is non constant and turns off with the ignition, would there be any problem in doing this?

Once i get all this figured out im going to post another diy... i had a really hard time actually finding a sensible one explaining what to do..

just need to be cautious of the amperage draw on the cigarette lighter. you could do the coil power, but not the contact power.

Man everyone installs the fogs the complicated way!
The ebay harness is set up just fine, for the outside section, inside is a different story.
The harness should connect to both fogs and then to a brown connector that is by the washer fluid reservoir- you may need to peel back the passenger fender lining to find this connector- I believe its brown and wrapped in blue tape. Connect your number 9 to it. Then your passanger and drivers side will be flipped around (your number 11's). This wire runs into the cabin, hence the cars being prewired for it.
Pull out the center console, and then take out the cig lighter trim section. Behind here you will find the other end of the wire that is already traced through the firewall for you. I believe its a 4pin connector, the same brown color as the other side. From here I think you can figure it out. I did it a little different tho..
I snipped off the connector/pigtail form the ebay harness and made my own with slightly bigger wires (or you could use theirs). I picked up a switch from Autozone because I didnt like the cheap one it came with and did my own wiring with an inline fuse and the supplied relay. My fogs were not tied into the ignition or the light switch itself and would stay on when the car was off, as this is how I wired it- the simplest way. Relay connected to 4 different things: 1) the fuse box (using harness connector), 2) the Autozone switch, 3) ground, 4) brown connector by cig outlet.

I couldn't recall seeing any connector by the washer fluid tank, so, your saying if i plug into that it will eliminate that harness between the fog harness and the switch harness inside the car?

Re: Installing oem style foglights on a '05 civic
I'm saying it will eliminate any need to run wires through the firewall, as that is already done for you with a honda foglight connector. This has nothing to do with power always being fed to the foglights or not. I suppose if you wanted to do that, you could tap the cig lighter into the relay so it only comes on when there is power to the cig lighter or something along those lines, theres a few different ways fogs can be wired.
Re: Installing oem style foglights on a '05 civic
MC670, the power to the light in the switch should go off when the key is turned off from the ignition. I would hate for you to lose your battery and kill it. Even though its a small draw, it's still constant and will shorten the life of your car battery.
