running 2 8 gauge for each amp.
running 2 8 gauge for each amp.
So I have 1 8 gauge wire with a 60a fuse going into a alpine mrp-f300. Now i'm thinking of upgrading and I ordered another amp - sony xm-1s. I've read that the 8 gauge power wire wont cut it.
I dont want to have to remove existing cabling to upgrade to a 4 gauge, so my question is if I can run 2 8 gauge wires for each amp? I will be running them next to each other.

You will be fine with 2 8 gauges, I can understand why you dont want to upgrade the cost is so much more with the 4 gauge and blocks and all the other crap you have to buy. Just make sure to run it along with your other one and keep the rca's on the other side of the car. If at some point you can upgrade to 4 do so but its just to make for a cleaner install and if you do decide upgrade again and or suck alot of power through it. But in any case your good.

man dont be cheap! Just go and upgrade to either 4 or 0 gauge because you are probably going to upgrade your system in the future and you will have to re do everything. If you dont upgrade make sure the lenghts of wire are the same so the current flows evenly.

The cleanest (and easily expandable in the future) option is to re-run your power wire with 4 or 2 AWG wire. Make sure it's fused high enough to handle both amps (80 - 100 amps ought to be just fine) and then run that into a distro block.
Keep in mind that if you use a distro block and you run any wires out that are smaller than the wire in (Say you run an 8awg wire out from a 4awg in) you need to re-fuse the smaller wire to prevent it from burning.
This will allow you to easily upgrade to larger equipment in the future.
I realize you don't want to run new wire, but I can honestly tell you that running a second wire is *harder* than running a bigger wire instead. All you have to do is attach the two wires together at one end, then pull out the smaller wire from the other end. The bigger wire will replace it nice and easy.

thanks, I ended up running another 8 gauge since the car audio shop had a amp kit for sale for 10$. I had just ran the initial 8 gauge without thinking it'll be enough so I didnt want to waste money. running the second wire was easy, took like 10 minutes really. Once you know which panels to pop up, you can easily tuck them away
. Now i'm just waiting on the amp.
