Well, I seem to be having very bad luck with my car audio these days.
My amp seems to be flaking out on me. It's just some cheap thing that came with my subs, but still. Annoying. Well here's what it is. It's a SOAT 400watt 2 channel amp.
Yesterday it would work for about 2 minutes than the protection light would come on. Then it would eventually work again. Today it didn't work at all, until i peeled away from my friends house. Than I heard a boom from the back (very loud too). and it worked for like 2 minutes. No protection light though, Just a nice power light, all day (even in the morning when they didn't work at all). Any way of fixing this. or do I need a new amp. maybe there's a loose internal connection?
Well Mohawk, I'm hoping you'll have a good idea for me. Otherwise I think I'll grab an Audiobahn amp, and maybe sell this one to a pawn shop.

Rep Power: 0 Okay.. I have a good one for you here.. Check your ground connection.. at both ends..the amp and grounding point.. if that's not it.. something broekn in the amp in which if you have skills with a soldering Iron find it and fix it.. and if all else fails.. DON'T BUY AN AUDIOBAHN AMP!!!....it's a fire hazard...if you want a good 400Wrms at 4ohms there are better less $$$ amps out there.. write back with any new details and lemme know how things go

Rep Power: 0 Well, I checked the grounds and reconnected each end with no luck. So now I have the amp right beside me. About to pull it apart. Should the bad connection be obvious?

Rep Power: 0 OK, I started to take it apart (just took the bottom panel off). And the main board appears to be roasted in two small areas. each near a larger resistor (both identical). At this point in time do I replace the burned parts, or just get a new amp?

Rep Power: 0 Good Replacement.. your amps fried.... the Kenwood amp is better than Decent..specially at that price.. I'd take it no doubt...Kenwood makes a solid product.. no Bling BLing though.. Just quality and functionally good.

Rep Power: 0 Thanks, I'm taking my amp to one of my electronics geek friends who might enjoy trying to fix it. Even if it ever does work again, It can't hurt to have another amp around.

Rep Power: 0 wow, you got a good deal. mine was $300 CDN. with no box or birth certificate. oh well. still a good deal. compared to $400 at a store for an XS2200. I found mine in the Bargain finder. it made my system a lot punchier and hit's really hard... a little beast indeed.
