HU Install Problem
I got my HU installed, but it will not turn on now. I had it working, but I unplugged the cable because it was blocking the deck from sliding back all the way. I moved the cable and plugged it back in, but forgot to test it before I put everything back together. Now it does not work. My power locks also do not work. My interior dome light does not work in the "door" position, but does work in the "on" position. I checked all of the fuses and when I tried the dome light and door locks, they worked once, but now they don't work again. I am going to tear it out tomorrow and check all of my connections. any ideas?

sounds like your HU +12v wire got yanked from the wiring harness behind the harness the radio hooks into.. Just take it apart..check things over.. and remeber to disconnct your battery again before doing this.

well, my car is torn apart right now. we have concluded that it is the yellow +12V memory wire. we are not getting any power to this wire at all. all of my fuses are good. my dome light, remote entry, power door locks, etc. do not work if the car is not on. what do you suggest? I thought this junk was supposed to be easy?

it's usually easy... as my Auto mechanics teacher once said..."Follow the Road!!"Literally trace the wire back to the harness in the back..make sure everything's hooked up allright.. if it is.. follow it furhter back..etc..etc..

the wire kind of disappears into the dash. hehe.
while we are at it, when using the Metra kit, I really couldn't find anywhere to screw the deck into the metal bracket that is part of the dash. I have one screw holding it in right now. I would like to get at least 2 in there if not more. any ideas. I don't really see anywhere to screw it into.

its not just the +12V to the radio. it is everything that runs off of constant +12V. power door locks, dome light, keyless entry, etc. could the wire that goes to the radio interfere with all of that? if it is a fuse, what fuse would it be? I am pretty sure I have checked every single fuse and they all look good.

Hmm I don't really know.. maybe you lost a ground somewhere??..With the Metra kit you should be able to get 4 screws in....is your prob screwing the HI to the kit..or the kit to the car?

I got it installed and everything works fine! I went out and pulled every fuse this morning and the one for Backup in the fusebox under the hood was blown. Is that for backup lights? well, whatever it was, it works now! Praise The Lord! only one small problem...I left one of my CD's in my stock CD player! doh! I am going to get it out in a few weeks when I install my amp and component set. I couldn't take pictures during the install because my mom had her digital camera with her, but I will take pictures of the finished product later tonight when she gets home with the camera. It sounds so much better now, its not even funny. I am very happy! The only thing I haven't figured out how to do yet is the RDS thing that will automatically set the clock, but that's not a big deal because I can just set it manually. peace out.

I have a question for you Mohawk. When I was hooking up my CD player, there was a Dimmer wire and an illumination wire from the car's wiring kit, but only a dimmer wire on the HU. The main display seems plenty bright enough, but the buttons are kind of weak. right now I have the 2 dimmer wires together (they are both orange with a white stripe) and there is the illumination wire from the car's harness just sitting there (plain orange I think). Should I try hooking up the illumination wire to the dimmer wire on the HU to see if it gets brighter? or should I splice the dimmer and illumination wires together and plug them both into the dimmer on the HU? just a question. let me know what you think. its not a big deal because I can read the buttons now, they just seem a little weak.
