2002 Civic EX power window problem
2002 Civic EX power window problem
I was wondering if anyone can help me with my power window problem.
Passenger window is having problem rolling up.
I can roll the window down using the switch but its not rolling up.
Is it the motor or is it the switch?
Please advise on how to solve the issue.
Thanks

hi HONDA CIVIC FOLKS,
I RECENTLY HAD THE FOLLWING PROBLEM WITH MY 2002 HONDA CIVIC 4DR SEDAN. THE DRIVER SIDE REAR PASSENGER WINDOW ROLLS DOWN BUT WON'T ROLL UP.
I CHECKED THE FUSES IN THE ENGINE FUSE BOX - OK
I CHECKED THE FUSES FOR EACH WINDOW - OK
I CHECKED THE RELAY UNDER THE DASH - OK
I CHECKED THE FUSE TO THE POWER WINDOW RELAY UNDER THE DASH OK
I TORE OFF THE THE DOOR PANEL TO GET TO THE MOTOR. I RAN 12V DIRECTILY TO THE SOCKET THAT POWERS THE WINDOW. IT WORKS. I REVERSED THE POLARITY TO MAKE THE WINDOW GO DOWN AND IT WORKS.
I REPLACED THE MASTER SWITCH AND GUESS WHAT, SAME PROBLEM, BACK WINDOW WON'T ROLL UP. I TESTED THE REAR DOOR WINDOW SWITCH FOR VOLTAGE AND IT SEEM LIKE I WAS GETTING 12V TO MAKE THE WINDOW GO DOWN. BUT NO VOLTAGE TO MAKE THE WINDOW GO UP.
OK SO NOW I KNOW IT HAS TO BE SOMETHING BETWEEN THE MASTER SWITCH AND THE REAR WINDOW SWTICH.
I REPEAT CHECK THE WIRING THAT IS IN BETWEEN YOUR MASTER SWTICH TO YOUR REAR WINDOW SWITCH. YOU CAN FIND THIS WIRING
IN THE REAR DOOR HINGE. IT'S COVERED WITH A RUBBER BOOT TO PROTEC THE WIRING .
IN MY CASE, THE WIRING MUST HAVE COME LOOSE WHEN THE REAR DOOR IS OPENED AND CLOSED SO OFTEN. I MADE SURE THE CONNECTION WAS OK AND BAM REAR WINDOW NOW ROLLS UP AND DOWN. SWITCHES WORK PERFECT, AND GOOD AS NEW!!!
I HOPE THIS HELPS ALL THE CIVIC OWNERS WITH POWER WINDOW PROBLEMS. I HOPE THIS TUTORIAL WILL HELP YOU DO SOME DIAGNOSTIC AND SAVE SOME HEADACHE AND TIME AT THE DEALERSHIP.
DO YOUR DIAGNOSTICS INSTEAD OF JUST REPLACING PARTS!!!
GOOD LUCK,
PEACE..

Re: 2002 Civic EX power window problem
I recently put in a new motor and regulator on my passenger window in my 2002 civic ex. At first i couldn't get it to go up, so i used the driver side controls to move it up and down. after i put the door panel back on the passenger side it wouldnt move again. i took the panel back off and tried rolling it up or down and it still wouldnt work, but i heard a tiny bit of noise coming from the new motor. i kept messing with the switch and when i slightly moved the switched up without moving it all the way up the window rolled up? most of the time it will still go down, but it will only go up if the switch is moved a tiny bit up. (sometimes) and sometimes i cant get it to move at all. the Honda dealersip a few miles away wants to charge me $100 to even look at it and another $50 an hour just to determine the problem. I checked all the fuses and connections and everything is fine and connected. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME! thanks

Re: 2002 Civic EX power window problem
I've had the same problem ever since I bought my '05 back in 2009. I've just never felt that it was a major problem because it only does that occasionally and not very often anymore; usually when it's cold outside and I don't even need the window down. My cars got a few other electrical quirks that are more concerning, like my ABS not turning on sometimes.
Re: 2002 Civic EX power window problem
I had the same problem with my window last summer. It would roll down but not up, then it stopped altogether... Then I read somewhere, sometimes the contacts just get dirty and if you clean the contacts with some alcohol, it will work fine again. But to do that you have to take off the door panel. Figuring I had nothing to lose, I just poured a little bit down into the window switch, let it clean the grime and gunk away and bam, working window again.
After cleaning my car last fall with some Armor-all wipes near the window switch, I could see the grease and grime sink down in to the window switch again. Sure enough, a couple days later, the passenger window stopped working again. Grabbed the rubbing alcohol again, poured a lil bit down down into there and bam, working windows again. I've got 235,000 miles on my 01 civic and still the original window motors.

Re: 2002 Civic EX power window problem
I have a similar issue as everyone above with my 2005 Civic EX 220K miles. My LR window works going down but not up - now that it's all the way down I have nothing (to be expected). Testing I've done with my meter: with the ignition switch on I have 12v power to the the LR door switch - metered the wiring harness, I removed the door panel and then removed the door switch from the door panel - then connected it to the wiring harness and have 12v power (up & down) coming out of the switch - so the switch seems to be good, then I tested power at the window regulator connection and have 12v (up & down) when using the LR door switch. So all seems good in the LR door operation. So, before I checked the master switch in the driver's door - everything pointed to a bad window regulator. When I tested the same from the master switch in the driver's door I get power to the window regulator connection - going down good but nothing going up?? So, is this a master switch issue or a bad wire between the master switch and the LR power window regulator connector (likely in the LR door hinge / boot or LF door hinge / boot??) or a bad master switch (which I haven't been able to test yet)?? It's not the window regulator - I wasted $50 on a new one and it has the symptoms?? Thanks for any help you can share!
