Subwoofer
Subwoofer
I was looking at purchasing a subwoofer for my 04 sedan and I wasn't sure about what i really needed. specifically, i was looking at purchasing either 1 or 2 JL 12" w3v2s and didnt know if 1 wold be enough. also, what kind of amp setup would i need for one or two. thanks.
and by the way, i have a pioner deh-p6000ub head unit of that makes a difference and stock speakers. thanks.

Re: Subwoofer
we need to know more specifically what you're looking for... some ear rattling bass or just a little extra bump or something in between ???
first thing i would do is upgrade the stock speakers, see how you like the enhanced sound and bass and then go from there. You'll probably want new speakers anyways if you get a woofer so the mids and highs aren't drowned out too much by the bass

Re: Subwoofer
What TYPE of music do you listen to? When it comes to buying a sub you have to make a decision eventually, do i go sealed or ported? Certain subs are designed for sq (sound quality) or spl (sound pressure level). Sq would typically be rock, misc but spl tends to be rap mainly. Do you want bass to accompany your music or do you want to shake the **** out of your car and the car in the lane next to you? If i had to go on a whim i would suggest a single 10" alpine type r with some mono class d amp delivering 500 watts rms. If you are considering a sub, i would highly suggest upgrading your stock speakers. I would lean towards an infinity component setup. (Personal opinion) I think the highs on the type r's are wayy to high and harsh. Stay away from Sony. They make good tv's but not car audio
Re: Subwoofer
i wouldn't go too big unless you upgrade your alternator. i got a type x and a 1000wrms alpine mono block and i've been debating on selling it to go smaller, more efficient. I just upgrade my speakers to kappa perfects components and i feel a lot better. i even disconnect my rears. good mid bass, a lot better than stock! id put money into that first then go sub if you want clarity or enjoy music. but if you want thump, then definately subs.

Re: Subwoofer
you really dont need something that powerful like a 1000w rms... plus u never turn it up even more than 75% unless you wanna blow ur windows out and attract cops
Re: Subwoofer
yeah, well i got a good deal on the amp and sub. 200 for the amp. 200 for the sub with box. both brand new. so i just use it as a filler and some thump everynow and then. if i could do it again, i'd go all components.
