Looking to replace stock speakers
Looking to replace stock speakers
I have on 01 civic lx sedan.
Hi I just bought a dual xhd6425
i want to replace the speakers. I want nice smooth, not overpowering, subtle, lows. And some nice crisp highs.
don't want to buy an amp
I'm looking at the Blaupunkt GTc542 compnent system on crutchfield but only comes with 2 speakers.
I also see some 2-way Alpine SPS-13C2. these have a greater frequency response. should i just replace all the speakers with these 2-ways?
or get the component system, and the two ways, and run the two ways in parallel with the tweeters.
should i get a compnent system with crossovers?
i think replace them all with 2 or 3-ways is the easiest and i would imagine it would sound decent, which is all i want.
bottom-line: i'm lookin to spend no more than 160. i like crutchfield cause they give me all the stuff i need to install (instructions, brackets, harness, etc.)
what do you think?
any site will do, as long as i can get everything i need
i read the stock speakers or 6.5", and about 1.5" deep. do the brackets crutchfield includes include the half inch spacer?
thank you.

Re: Looking to replace stock speakers
with most speakers, you will need a .75" spacer. my alpines came with it. my alpines also cost $100 on sale for 2 from online car stero. my alpines also need an amp. yours will too.
Re: Looking to replace stock speakers
The alpines type-S are your best solution if your not going to run an amp. they will give you a good sound and your able to run them off your head unit. but to get the full potential out of any speakers you should run a little four channel and be sure to look at the rms ratings on both the amp and speakers. Been installing audio/video/security systems for 5 years now so that would be my opinion let me know how it goes.
Re: Looking to replace stock speakers
If you're really looking to go without an amp, just a simple 2-way speaker is a good idea. I'm partial to Alpine myself, the best bet would be those Type-S speakers. Quite honestly as civicinmaking said, an amp will complete your sound stage. Getting a little two channel amp and some Type-R components will be an amazing upgrade won't run you toooo ragged on price but totally worth it.However, the Type-R's tend to have a little more bass in them. I have Type-X components up front and a 4 channel amp with stock rears and some middle of the road headunit, it sounds phenomenal.
Re: Looking to replace stock speakers
well the reason i didn't want to run an amp is cause i want to install the speakers myself and i dunno if i could install an amp because i don't know where i would put it and if i would be able to run the wiring myself.
that and i don't think i want my speakers THAT loud.

Re: Looking to replace stock speakers
if you dont want an amp, i would stick to a cheap paper cone speaker like the $20 pioneer bestbuy has. aftermarket speaker will be underpwoered and you wont have much if any bass.
Re: Looking to replace stock speakers
I ran pioneer in my car and they sound real good. I got them from wal-mart for like a hundred and something. Keep in mind if you plan on doing the install yourself I hope you like removing interior panels, there was a time during my install when the only interior part to my car that was left were the seats and the dashboard. You may want to spend a little less on speakers and also add some sound deadening material, thats the only regret that I have about my install.

Re: Looking to replace stock speakers
I have those type-s' in the front and the back, it sounds good for just speakers and no amp. one of these days i would like to have an amp. Is it that hard to wire an amp? and do these work well with an amp?
not to hi-jack your thread, im just curious.

Re: Looking to replace stock speakers
amp wiring is easy once you understand how it works. basically you have the amp in the rear and deck in the front of the car. the deck needs to have rca preouts, one pair for each channel like fronts, rears, sub. so if you have two sets of preouts, you can hook up front/rear speakers but no sub. or just front and sub. best if you have 3 sets so you can hook everything. basically, the deck outputs the music signal through the rca cables instead of the harness speaker wires like before. these rca plug into your amp, and the amp then amplifies the signal and sends it back to the speakers. so from the amp, you need to run speaker wires (two for each speaker, + and -) back to the front where you can connect them to the factory speaker wire harness. or you could run the wires directly to each speaker which takes a bit longer and prolly not necessary. they sell bundled speaker wire which has 8 wire colors in one big wrapped wire so it makes it easier to run it from the amp back to the front harness. thats it really. just be sure to run all the rca and speaker wire on one side of the car. then to actually power the amp with voltage, you hook up one ground wire to the metal somewhere in the rear, then run a power wire from amp directly to battery + terminal with a fuse protection within 1 foot of the battery. then lastly, you run one smaller wire called remote-turn on from the deck to the amp. this tells the amp only to turn on when the deck is on. otherwise the amp will always stay on. be sure you run your power and remote wires on the opposite side that you ran the rca and speaker wires.

Re: Looking to replace stock speakers
im pretty partial to alpine type r's and most infinity speakers
your gonna get a better sound with a component setup then just your standard speakers. I would suggest you amp your speakers tho.....the sound would be wayy better. When buying speakers, ignore the peak watt rating, whats important is the rms rating, you can kinda determine how loud they will be by the rms rating .....most front speakers are between 70-85rms
the front speakers in our cars are 6.5"
back speakers are 6x9's
w/e u decide to buy ive found really good deals on www.onlinecarstereo.com

Re: Looking to replace stock speakers
70-85 rms watts?!?!?!
that is A LOT! from what i understand my deck outputs 17 watts rms per channel and i've been satisfied with the the loudness. Only thing is that i thought i could improve the sound by getting new speakers. I'm already satisfied with the how loud my car will go so, I don't understand why I should get an amp, and 70-85 watts sounds like a lot.

well the 70-85 watts are just the speaker rating.....i dunno what the stock speakers are......25? 35? 15? IDK
The channel is the power source coming from the headunit which is powering them, so assuming what ur saying is correct, the stock headunit is putting out 17w per channel..
you'll get the most out of your speakers with an amp
well as soon as you find some speakers you like just put those in there and if you want a lil more which you probably will, then get an amp

Re: Looking to replace stock speakers
lol i have 70rms going to mine. I could up it to 100rms if i wanted to reroute my wires to 2-Ohm. Stock speakers are around 15 maxx and like 12 contintuous rms. its lame. After i put my alpine head unit in, my front ones starting buzzing (i think i blew em)

Re: Looking to replace stock speakers
im really happy with 25-30wrms going to my 60w max infinity. lol i know its not much but it still makes a difference. i dont listen too loud tho just normal level and bass is good enough that i dont need a sub. dont forget to spend time and do the install right too otherwise all this means nothing. cant just throw speakers in the car and expect miracles.
Re: Looking to replace stock speakers
k well, my hu is a 50w max 17rms unit. so i think i'll go with those alpine-s's. i'll look up all the install diy's here online, and crutchfield includes a lot of good info.
thanx

Re: Looking to replace stock speakers
k i was looking at some blaupunkt gtx652, and crutchfield doesn't recommend them for my car. they are 6 1/2". There are also those alpine type-s that are
6 1/2" that they don't recommend.
They say they won't fit my car
what's up with that?
if i buy the speakers off online car stereo, will i be able to just get the adapter plates and spacers at like best buy?
