amp getting constant power problem
amp getting constant power problem
ok so my amp blew awhile ago. while i didnt have one, i bought a capacitor. so i finally got a new amp and hooked it up and it works fine. i tried starting my car this morning and my battery was dead. so i just put in a new battery and checked the amp. i had the car off and the keys out and the amp was still getting power. thats what drained my battery. im not sure how to fix this to make the amp power off with the car. any help? also this is a diagram of how its wired
battery---->capacitor(which has its own ground)----->amp which also has its own ground
battery---->capacitor(which has its own ground)----->amp which also has its own ground

Re: amp getting constant power problem
need to make sure the remote wire from the radio is wired to the remote input on the amp. I have seen remotes that get stuck on when the car is off. turn the car off and get a test light and see if there is still power on the remote wire. Remote on the head unit is usually blue with white stripe. If you have voltage on the remote wire with the car off that is most def the problem. Main amp power wire goes to battery, Black ground as close to amp as possible (not to bat -) and blue wire from radio to rem on amp. Hopes this helps, sorry no time to draw a diagram. Unhook the remote wire if you dont have access to a test light or voltmeter if you are sure this is the problem. With the remote wire removed you should have no power on the amp (no power led on). the bat wire will still show +12vdc with respect to ground. If you remove the remote and your batt is still draining disconnect the amp altogether as it could just have an internal problem and draining the batt. only thing you can do at that point is remove and get another amp or just do without.

yep. make sure the remote wire is hooked to the remote power out of the radio and not wired to a constant power from the fuse box or something.

Re: amp getting constant power problem
plugged into what? and hooked up to what? turn the head unit off. is the amp on? if so, then it's not hooked up right. with the HU off and the amp on, unplug the harness. does the amp go off? if so, again, it's not hooked up right.
Re: amp getting constant power problem
alright i finally fixed this problem. i had an old deck where the blue wire was the remote wire. after my amp blew i bought a new deck with more features and used the same wiring hookup and just plugged it together. but with the new deck the blue wire was a constant power and they changed the remote wire to red. so i just re-wired and it works fine now

that's strange. that's so against the standard color scheme.
