Does a 7th generation Lx Have an Immobilizer?

I have a 2001 LX Coupe I am looking at installing a remote start alarm. Does the 2001 LX have an immobilizer? My Key looks like a regular key. Please let me know.

Re: Does a 7th generation Lx Have an Immobilizer?

I'm pretty certain all the seventh gens have chipped keys, for the immobilizer. You can't actually see the chip in the metal portion of the key, like some other makes of cars. Mine looks like this, and it has a chip.

yes they do have a chip in it. i also have an 01 lx. i went to walmart to get a new key made and all it does is unlock the doors , doesnt start the car. so i had to goto a honda dealership to have them make me one with the chip in it.

i don't believe the 01's and 02's have the same keys as the 03-05? My 02 is just a regular cut key, not like the one posted above.

That's weird, I see my post when I look at this thread...Hmm. Wonder why you guys didn't. Anyways that was what I said. 03-05 have Laser cut keys, like VW, Audi, and other high-end car makers. 01-02 are...uhh...what else. Regular keys with chips in them.

and it still has a chip in it. that green light flashing on your dash when you turn your car off that looks like a key is the immobilizer system.

yep, that has a chip inside it. looks just like mine. if you don't believe it, got to walmart, get one cut, leave your black Honda key in the house, and try to start your car with the new one. it won't work. it's just like 01HonderCivic said, the 01-02's are different in appearance than the 03-05's.

Re: Does a 7th generation Lx Have an Immobilizer?

Darn my Ex-wife keeps screwing me more and more. She took the spare key and the valet key. So now another key is going to be expensive and now I am going to have to get a DEI 555i for the alarm. That I am installing to keep her from stealing the car. LOL this is so funny.
