blown accessories/ radio fuse

So I blew that fuse just by turning on my foglights. just replaced my bulbs with a 100w rating. the bulbs that were in there before were at 55w. So after I pushed the switch the fuse blew. The fuse that blew was 7.5. I replaced it with a 10 and now the foglights work. But how much of a risk is it by putting a 10a fuse where a 7.5a should be? Any of you replaced a fuse with a slightly higher one and not have any problems?

big danger! it's not the fuse you have to worry about, it's the wires. the wires aren't designed to handle that much amperage needed by the 100w bulbs. the 7.5 fuse is designed to prevent the wires from overheating and starting a fire. by putting a 10A in there, you're risking burning up your car. so there's no safe way to run the 100w bulbs. you could upgrade the wires, put a relay and run power directly off your battery, but the plastic housing of the fogs isn't designed to handle the heat of a 100w bulb. so again, you're risking heat damage and possible fire. bottom line, don't run 100w bulbs.

Re: blown accessories/ radio fuse

well, how much would be a descent (sp) price for foglight bulbs?

*EDIT*

so i found these nokyas. output says 80w. but usage says 55w? so would this be safe to use without catching anything on fire or ruining my fog housing?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nokya...spagenameZWDVW

and these luminics

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H11-L...spagenameZWDVW

so does the output make any difference and/or what does it have to do with anything?

Re: blown accessories/ radio fuse

alright. for the luminics. it says usage 55w, output 130w. now my question. does the 130w output have to do with my fuse blowing or is the output watts really mean lumens in other words? please someone explain the usage and output watts to me.

and i did reseach on google. all the descriptions for the nokya and the luminics are the same.

the 55w/130w thing is just a sales gimmick. they claim that they only use 55w of power but appear to be as bright as a 130w bulb. they still only use 55w of electricity though.

Re: blown accessories/ radio fuse

^^nail on the head. as long as it says it's only drawing 55, then you'll be alright.

Re: blown accessories/ radio fuse

so the output i shouldnt worry about then?

cuz even on the www.luminicsbulbs.com site and other sites it says it draws 55w and ouputs 130w. and the nokyas draw 55w and output 80w. so all im asking is the draw (usage) watts all i have to worry about and not the output?

Re: blown accessories/ radio fuse

it says 55w right on the bulbs. otherwise they would list it as 100w=180w or something for a higher wattage version. they just do that so people buy it thinking it will be bright if they say 55=80w. it doesnt, not even close. its a 55w bulb with a yellow coating, so it wont even be as bright as a clear 55w bulb lmao.

yep. the actual current draw is all that you're worried about for safety.

Re: blown accessories/ radio fuse

dude, you should just get a relay, hook the relay up like the fogs are now, then run power from the battery through an inline fuse and the relay, going to the lights, and you can use your bulbs you had in there no problem.
