Led Scanner installation

Hi, I know this is not the first topic on this issue but I can't find any thread that really answers my questions.

I've paid someone to install an old Varad led scanner but the guy has botched the job and he tapped both the black and yellow wire on the same constant 12V wire.

Now, I've just bought a new scanner from Varad, the new model and I'm trying to install it by myself. I know exactly where a ground wire and a constant 12V wire are obviously but I have no idea where to find a positive 12V (when the key is in the ignition)...

I own an Honda Civic LX 2003.

Here's a picture of the ground and constant wires. (sheaths are cut)

Can someone give me any help or any hints of where to connect the yellow wire of the scanner exactly ?

Thank you.

Re: Led Scanner installation

Isn't the white your constant and the white/red your accessory?

You're right, the white is a constant and the white/red seems to be an accessory because I've juste realized that it's positive when key is in the ignition.

Now, all I need to know I guess is where to find a negative wire.

Thanks but your link gives information about the radio wires. The wires shown on my picture are just under the steering wheel and I don't think they're linked to the stereo. As a matter of fact, I don't know what they're linked to exactly.

Re: Led Scanner installation

Also, the guy I had paid to do the job had attached an 18 gauge wire to the scanner wires... Do I really need to do this or are the scanner wires just fine ?

Re: Led Scanner installation

I suggest fixing the wires under the steering wheel and using the ones behind the radio....I would rather blow the fuse or whatever on the radio side instead of something in the dash or ignition. Just my .02

Yeah, I thought about that but the radio wires do not seem very easy to access..

Re: Led Scanner installation

Ground can be grabbed a few different places, practically any piece of metal will function, behind the radio is an easy grab, there is also a black ground beneath the gauges you may be able to access from below the dash.

I think the wires that comes with the scanner will be more than sufficient. It would be a good idea to insert fuses between the wires you've pictured (your ignition harness btw) and the wires for the scanner.

Re: Led Scanner installation

Um, any kind of automotive fuse would work. I would probably use a 'blade-style' ATC fuse. Shouldn't need more than 5A per I would think. Just use crimp terminals, tap into your wires, insert the fuse, and the other side of the fuse goes to the scanner wires.

Re: Led Scanner installation

Has anyone any tips for getting the wire from the top of the dash, through the space between the window and the dash, to the underneath of the dash ? I thought that was going to be easy but it's not.
