Re: Horrible HID Light Output
glare shield should be positioned at the bottom of the bulb, and also sedan headlights have a better reflector than coupe. ive had this problem with a kit too, there was not much sidelight and i had a $600 kit from a good company. it just depends on the headlight, i mean its not designed for hid optics so really you cant expect much. just make sure bulbs are positioned and seated properly in the housing. from the wall, they look fine as far as aiming.

Re: Horrible HID Light Output
yeah, like gearbox said, the stock headlights were designed for halogens, not HID's. the arc of an HID is a completely different shape than a halogen filament. combine that with a different focal point, and your results can vary from awesome to worse than halogen, even from the same vendor/manufacturer. HID kit manufacturers do not design to DOT specs, thus they don't have the same quality controls and repeatability. if you don't have to meet a certain design spec for certification, you're not going to pay for stringent manufacturing controls.
