Foglight issues

I have never seen a bulb look like this before...

What would cause my foglight to balloon up like that?
It only happens on my passenger side foglight. I have gone through 3 bulbs now. So I am pretty sure its not the bulb. I even took the bulb out of the drivers side and put in the passenger side and it will eventually balloon up like this.

I assumed moisture at first, but I have never noticed any moisture inside of my foglight. I never had this problem till after I replaced the stock bulbs with yellow bulbs. The specs on the these bulbs are as follows:

Nokya H11 Hyper Yellow Pro Halogen 12V 55W

I just bought some yellow Lamin-X to cover my foglight lenses. I think I am going to go back to my stock bulbs for now. And just out of curiousity... anyone ever used Lamin-X and have any tips on the best way to apply it to my foglights?

Re: Foglight issues

dang man... that is trippy... it looks like the bulb was too hot inside and soften the holding causing it to bubble when moisture was around it or just air trying to escape from inside the bulb itself... i never seen this before, but damn if its happening 3times now, i suggest getting your harness or wires recheck or something.. might being giving too much power to that single harness causing any bulbs to react like that.. i say take it to a professional just to diagnose it man... at least you'll know what is the cause ...

good luck...

/\/\ i would have to agree...my first thought was yoo much power equals more heat equals warped bulb...

Re: Foglight issues

Yeah I am going to put in the stock bulbs to see if it still does it to the stock bulbs first. After the first time I noticed it, I thought maybe I touched the bulb itself and the oils from my fingers made it react that way. But I was sure not to touch the bulb the second or third time. So its very strange. I think if the stock bulbs do the same thing then it is probably something with the wiring and the bulbs are just getting too hot. Just trying to narrow down all the factors first.

Re: Foglight issues

this has happened to me when i used to use hyper white bulbs in my headlights, but never with conventional halogen bulbs. i think it has to do with the bulb getting too hot, but why it only happend to one side i have no idea.

i dont think its necessary to get the issue diagnosed professionally - its just not that big of a deal.

Re: Foglight issues

i had nokyas in stock fogs and never had that happen. make sure its wired correctly. is that side brighter than the other? also laminx will just burn over time, our fogs are too hot to run it. i burnt my clear film with stock clear bulbs in those fogs.

Re: Foglight issues

I never noticed one being brighter than the other, even when aiming the foglights I never noticed a difference in output. Not untill it forms the bubble that the light output looks very dim.

That sucks about the Lamin-X too. I was hoping if they made pre-cuts for foglights that it would be able to withstand the heat. I didn't get pre-cuts I just bought bulk, but figured that either way the material would be okay over the lights. Thanks for the feedback gearbox.

Re: Foglight issues

just buy the yellow ebay fogs and swap them with yours. it is a nice yellow lens without film to burn.

Re: Foglight issues

If I can swap the lens out, maybe I will try the Lamin-X and if it melts then I will go ahead and get the cheap ebay fogs and swap out the lens. But if Lamin-X doesn't melt then thats a penny saved to go toward new suspension. We will see what happens with the stock bulbs too, if they balloon up then I may have to replace foglight harness anyways.

Re: Foglight issues

The ion ones are dope, they look more clear from a distance, but give the added effect of the yellow tinge when you have stock bulbs.. I'm running nokyas and its all good, no problems at all.
