New speaker time
New speaker time
It's been a while since I paid any attention to car audio, but now it's time for me to replace the speakers in my car and I need some suggestions. I'm looking for a pair of 6.5" and I don't want a sub so i'm looking for speakers that have some a decent amount of bass. They're going to be amped with about 80w each and I'm looking to spend in the neighborhood of $100. I hate harsh sounding speakers and would much rather have a speaker that is more forgiving in the high frequencies. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Re: New speaker time
i just installed 4 6.5 polk db component speakers. sounds great i have the 4 tweeters mounted niceley and the speakers are nice too.
they ran me $149 per set msrp is $199 a set so do some shopping but the polk db component is the way to go

Re: New speaker time
Its going to be tough to get any kind of good bass if you go with components all around. Most manufactuers who make components figure that if you are spending the money on components and are willing to mount tweeters etc, then you probably care enough about sound to get a sub. For this reason, they keep their speakers from producing the lower end of the sound spectrum and components usually only dip down to like 50 or 60Hz, with very little output in that range. The only small midrange speakers that I have ever seen truly reproduce the audible lower end of the freq range (down to low 20Hz in room) where the adire extremis, which arent on the market anymore. You could always purchase some other midbass speakers for the rear deck or even some 6.5" subs like the new JL w3 that are coming out in july, but you would have to build little .25ft enclosures for em. Otherwise, like I said, most aftermarket speakers are meant to be accompanied by a sub to faithfuly reproduce more of the sound spectrum. As far as "harsh" sounds in the upper spectrum, I would avoind anything with a metallic tweeter....go with silk if possible. Some people will go on for hours about the benifits of one over the other but it is complelty a judgment call....I myself prefer titanium tweets. Some good speakers with soft teewts to look into would be JLs or infinitys.

I just put in db650's too. Could not get them mounted in the rear so I used sonys that filly out the bottom end a bit better. Once I deaden everything I might not even need a sub for a while. As a note, in order to fit the db650's with crutchfields provided spacer I had to cut the circle on the door that meets the stock speaker. A razor knife made quick work of it. Make sure all panels are resecured properly as my setup unamped is enough to rattle the crap out of the car. This is by design on my part as I am waiting for my rolls of rammat and ensolite to come out of back order and plan on tearing it down again anyways.

Re: New speaker time
i have some infinity 6.5 amped 30w and boy they can pound. i think youll be happy with what you got, but remember you cant just throw in speakers and expect good sound. the deck doesnt matter much either, i run a cheap under $200 alpine, their second to lowest model. its the install that will mean everything. and you prolly should get separate tweeters too and just run them off the deck power if youre amping all the speakers already. then sound deadening will be your friend. do a layer at least in the front doors and the rear deck. make sure the front speakers are sealed up good.

hahahahahhahhaha! Well to each their own...im more about in cabin sound quality. I don't care if people can hear my music outside my ride....if done right they wont be able to hear much unless I roll down a window or open a door.

Re: New speaker time
lol it isnt that bad electric. Alot of people say it takes forever to do but really that all depends on the experience of the installer. I think I did my girls rear deck in only like 5 minutes if that. Doors are easy as well if you can manage working with large enough peices. I havnt worked with ensolite yet so I can't comment on that. Im goin crazy waiting for my matting because I wanna do my car now lol. Just a little bit in my girls car made a HUGE difference

Re: New speaker time
Eh for me its just another project, like building a computer, or a model or something. Just keeps me occupied and I can enjoy the end result every day considering I drive a total of 2 hours or more back and forth to work every day. Now...amplifiers...thats uncharted territory for me...I have read up on how to route the power cables, I just don't know how to wire the speakers
Re: New speaker time
Wiring the speakers is pretty easy. You just have to remember to keep the speaker wires away from the power wires as much as possible. I routed the power down the passenger side and the wires down the middle next to the parking brake. As for the deadening I've got some asphalt based stuff in there now, which makes a huge difference. If I had to do it over I would've picked a butyl based mat cuz my car STANK for a good 6 months after the install.
