H4 HID Kit install gone wrong...
H4 HID Kit install gone wrong...
hey guys, I just tried installing my H4 HID kit (it was a gift) on my 2004 Acura 1.7EL... but I couldn't get the lowbeam HID to turn on... I think it has something to do with the factory harness->HID kit harness... anyone know what wire is what or what I am doing wrong?
Below are pics of the HID hardness kit, which is supposed to plug into the factory harness.
2black wires = ground
1bright red wire = power for hid
1darker red = power for highbeam hallogean

if you are looking at the oe plug, arrange it so that there is the single hole in the top, with the 2 holes below it. The top hole is your ground. plug your black wire into that. the one below it and to the right is your common hot. plug the red into that and give it a shot.

Re: H4 HID Kit install gone wrong...
well maybe for the hi/low function im guessing. but thats me.. maybe a short. but unless you got exposed wires. that might not occur
Re: H4 HID Kit install gone wrong...
the plug has a common hot and swiches ground for high and low beam. so if you plug the black into the top ground, and the red into the common hot, that will give you low beams. in order to wire the high beams, splice the red from the hid kit to a wire coming from the high beams together. then run a wire to the other ground.

Re: H4 HID Kit install gone wrong...
based on the first pic, referencing the black rubber piece with 4 wires, the black and read that have the black plastic connector with the yellow rubber gaskets are the HID wires that connect to the ballast output. that's impossible to wire wrong. problem is that this setup is wired for a switched positive system and we have a switched ground system (7th gen) if the last pic is the male connector, you need to separate the two black wires and put the one for the high beam halogen in there. then you need to put the black for the HID in the place of the bright red wire (in the middle, that's low beam ground). then you need to combine the two reds in the place of the two black grounds. problem with this setup is that whenever you turn your high beams on, the HID will turn off. that's just the way that H4 systems function. there's no way around this except to use a relay harness with seperate relays and wired straight to the battery. the good news is that this also prevents you from running HID's off your stock wires which is a very, very bad idea. i know, i know, everyone says "HID's only use 35w, that's less than the stock halogens." problem is that during startup, they will easily draw over 120w to get the HID going. that will exceed the capacity of the stock wires and has been known to cause fires in the past. again, more reason you need a relay harness with HID's. relay harnesses are well documented here and at HID Planet (www.hidplanet.com/forums)
if you already hooked up the ballasts with reverse polarity, and they didn't work, you would have blown the fuses in your car. replace the fuses before you try this again or your efforts will be in vain. after you replace the fuses, buy and install a relay harness so you don't damage your car.
