Headlights "Flicker"

Hello everyone!

I have a '97 Dx. When driving at night, with the headlights on, the lights dim and get brighter, over and over... it seems that the battery isn't giving off enough power, and causing them to dim, then get brighter, dim, get brighter... Anyone else experience this? How can it be solved?

Thanks!

Re: Headlights "Flicker"

I am guessing this isn't just my car's problem. I have found a few articles online that describe the same thing, but nobody knows how to stop it. Hopefully I will be able to find the source of the problem when I start driving it at the end of this month. Maybe someone knows how to solve this?

Thanks

Re: Headlights "Flicker"

I don't know much about your model but I know 7th gen alternators are weak. If you are running any kind of stereo this happens at high load. Maybe get your alternator checked out.

Re: Headlights "Flicker"

Allright... Thanks for the insight. I am only running the stock stereo, not loud (I don't like loud stereos) I will check that out when i check out my battery. Thanks!

Re: Headlights "Flicker"

Thanks for the reply and a possible solution. If you don't mind me asking, what brand of alt. and battery are you using now? That will be one thing I would do after I get new clear headlights to keep them steady.

Thanks!

Re: Headlights "Flicker"

The rules of auto electronics= good ground and connections. Take your time (and a cheap voltmeter) to check all grounds . Check and clean all connections and fuses. A 10 year old car build a lot of corrison(sp) on electrical connections.
