component speakers

Yesterday i bought a pair of infinity component speakers and didn't install them yet. i have an 03 ex coupe with tweeters. i was wondering if honda has the crossover box where it separates the tweeter and the speaker.
basically what im getting at is how to i install these? do i just put the crossover at the speaker or so i look where they connect?

Most stock compenents dont come with what you would consider a "crossover box" like your new speakers. Instead there is usually a simple little circuit attached to the back of the tweeter that only allows certain frequencies that are higher than xxxxx so the tweeter does not blow, it just doesnt come in a cool looking box that you can maybe adjust. I dont have components in my lx, but my 2 ways have external crossovers just like components. I mounted mine right above the speaker (or for you what you would call the midbass). Just make sure you mount it as tight to the speaker as possible so it fits underneath the stock door grill. Some people like to mount the crossovers on the outside of the door panel, in their glove box, underside of the dash, etc, because they think it looks cool, or helps them adjust faster, whatever. I personally think it just looks like another excuse for someone to break into your car and steal your stuff.

It doesnt matter where the crossover is placed, as long as it isnt going to get wet, etc. I would place the crossover right above your 6.5, and run the tweeter wire up through the door panel and into the sail panel (the little black panel where your tweeter is...shaped like the sail on a boat). This should work just fine. I used hot glue to stick my crossover to the door. Just follow the instructions that came with the speaker for which wires to hook up to the 6.5 and the tweeter and make sure you hook them up right, you dont want to be sending low freq sounds into that tweeter or else it will be ruined real fast. Everything should be straight foward and color coded, so you shouldnt have any trouble.

Re: component speakers

You go from the headunit to the crossover, then from the crossover to the 6.5", then from the crossover to the tweeter. I installed the infinity components too in mine, I ran all new wire cause I plan on amping them this summer, that's why I also installed the crossovers on my kickpanels, cause this summer when i'll be amping them, I won't have to open up my door panels again, I'll just have to change the wire from the headunit and run a new one to the amp. Just a heads up, the tweeters are a bitch to put in the factory tweeter panel (if thats were you were planning on putting them), but I managed to do it with a little of swearing . Anyways, here are some pics.

Re: component speakers

DO NOT MOUNT UR CROSSOVER BOX THERE!!!

route it back to the trunk and set them next to the amp...nice beautiful...not in anything's way

Yup I just ran them from the headunit to the crossovers routing them behind the panels.

i'm not sure they would fit behind the kicks. When I installed them, I wasn't sure if I was gonna amp them or not, that's why I chose that location. In the pics, i'm really close up and underneath my steering wheel, but when your sitting in the car, you can't see the wires going into the crossovers, here are some pics of it when a little higher, not even sitting height.....

Here is one at sitting height.....

So I don't think it looks bad in that location, but if amping, you should defenatly put it in the trunk.

Re: component speakers

you'll need a spacer to mount the speakers. they won't fit in the stock openings. you need a 3/4" spacer for the infinity components.

Re: component speakers

definately put an amp to those... you will not get anywhere near the usefulness of them without one.
