Panasonic direct iPod cable + quick question

I'm currently running my phono plugs to a mini jack, which plugs in to the headphone jack so i can listen to my ipod through my speakers. This method is currently weak, because i think one of the rca cables came loose from the aux jack. I'm not entirely sure how to go about getting behind there either, i know theres the whole center console method, but any others?

Back on topic of the iPod wire, I have a two questions:

Is this wire actually worth the $70? Can i scroll through songs on my head unit (Panasonic 8313), or does it just recharge it and display the info on my head unit?

Another question. To wire this, do i have to remove my middle console and such just to get to the back? Or is there an easier way about that? It's a Canadian manual 02 Si, so I guess the same as the American EX model.

Just trying to broaden my knowledge, and there seems to be many knowledgeable people on this forum. So i figured I'd ask.

Thanks.
