HELP! FM Modualtor to NON Ipod Mp3 player
I want to hook up my non Ipod mp3 player to stock radio.. I have the Kenwood KCA-R71FM(Kenwood KCA-R71FM FM Adapter/Controller) and was hoping to use this to hook up my player to the radio..So far i connected the factory antenna to the mod, then the mod to the antenna in, but this didn't work...I also want to mention that Im using a headphone jack to RCA adapter which connects into the mod too.. Can anyone suggest what Im doing wrong?
Are you tuning into the right FM frequency? Look on the side of the installed unit and there will be a switch showing what FM frequency it is dialed to. Whichever one it is switched to, tune your FM radio to that.
Feel safe at night, sleep with a paramedic.

does the modulator require a separate power source?? doesn't seem like the power coming out of a headphone jack would be enough. if it does have separate power, is it fused?? good ground??
usually they run off of a battery or you can plug them into the cig port.
As long as you are using a normal FM modulator (not iPood specific) then it will work. You must turn on the transmitter, and switch the the correct station on your radio. Also if you are in a big city, you might have to mess with different frequencies.
First step would be to hook up a pair of headphones and confirm the music player is outputting sound.
Second step would be confirm the modulator is on and tuned, and that the HU's radio is tuned to that frequency.
That is all that a modulator does. So if those simple things don't work, then something is wrong with the unit itself.
What mp3 player and what modulator?

What mp3 player and what modulator?
The Mod. is wired into the system, a pro did it awhile back when I had satellite radio so I know it works... The unit doesn't have a switch to change the frequency, but freq 88.7-89.9 imprinted on the case itself. When I had satellite radio I used 88.1. The mp3 player is the Samsung YP-U2J. The only thing I can think of is that the Mod isn't "new enough" as I got it in 2003, before the whole "Ipod Revolution". Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
It has nothing to do with an iPod. It just takes audio and feeds it through. You could use an 8track player or a PS3 and the analogue audio signal will feed through.
That would be something to try. Try to hook up a CD player or anything else that has an audio out line to it. That would confirm that it is the modulator and not the source.
