Too many tap-ins to cig lighter????
Too many tap-ins to cig lighter????
I bought a second cig lighter from radio shack and tapped into my factory one for my navigation so it would go on and off with the car. I also wanted to do the same with my ps2 because i have the 12v plug for it but do you think that will be do much power from that one source?

it'll probbaly blow the fuse. generally when wiring up a power inverter you pass an 8 or 10 guage wire from the battery and fuse it accordingly and use the cig lighter to trip a relay to turn power on for the inverter
quick question i'm trying to install a 400w inverter.. how exactly do i attach it to my battery and get it to reach all the way into my car.. cant seem to figure it out.. i was thinking of tapping the power going to my stock radio.. or maybe even the cig lighter.. but its only puts out 120w i think :/.. any suggestions..

feed your wire thru .. it should come out on the passenger side floor.. take off the lower trim piece below the glove box and look for it to come out around the fan looking thing .. then theres your power wire for your power inverter..
when using the screwdriver just use one thats a lil smaller than the size wire you plan to use so the rubber grommet still does its job in protecting from water...
also if you have side airbags ( or even if you dont ) you can run your wire along the passenger side trim pieces ( kick panel and door sill panel ) to underneath the passenger side seat and hide your power inverter... if you have side airbags use the hole in the carpet thats for them , if not poke a lil hole into the carpet and run your wire thru ( poking a hole in the carpet is totally up to you ... but if you do again do a small enough hole so its not easy to see )
also if you do mount it underneath the seat removal of the seat will help ...
another thing .. ( this is only if you have side airbags .. if you dont have them then dont worry about this ) when you unplug the side airbags for removal of the seat .. DO NOT ( AND I REPEAT ) DO NOT start the car or even turn it on t accessory for anything while that side air bag is disconnected.. ( again this previous step is only for side air bags.. i have them and i learned the hard way about the turning the car on without the seat being connected ... cost 125 bucks to turn the airbag light off )
i used that same rubber grommet when i ran my 2 gauge wire for my system ... so it will fit a good sized wire.. and PLEASE use a fuse with that power wire to protect from anything .. last think you want is a live power wire running thru your car ..
feel free to send me a private message with any questions on this.. im not a big electronic guru but i do know enough about runnning power wire thru the firewall and back to the trunk ...also i wont know what size wire would be recommended for your power wire , but go to home depot or lowes and ask them then make the trip and buy some appropriate sized car audio power wire ..
