sony is the worst brand ever, pick something else. make sure you know how the ipod interfaces work. some decks are **** slow and will annoy you to no end.
how about this?

i love my alpine 9847, but the thing is very picky with cds and can only play tdk brand otherwise it skips and pops all over. and the ipod is veeery slow. not sure if they improved the new ones.
I'd look at the Alpine CDE-9852 paired with the $30 Alpine Full Speed cable. No outboard converter box or power needed. The deck has the Quicksearch feature so you'll be able to cruise thru your playlists easily.
The other decks out there that work with iPods don't work very well until you get into the pricier ones (ie Pioneer's with a rotary **** or anything that is touchscreen as genexrocket mentioned.) You're on the right track with the 9852.

Yeah, the deck install is no big deal. There's a couple of good DIYs floating around on the site as far as removal is concerned, and the iPod cable is very easy to run from your glovebox to the back of the deck. If you do run into any issues feel free to ask. Good luck.
Well, you don't have to put the iPod in the glovebox but the nice thing about the Alpine is that all of the controls are done right thru the deck so you won't even need to touch the iPod while you're driving. That being said, I find it's easiest to set it up so the iPod is in the glove, it's relatively hidden but still accessible when you get out of/into the car.
When you install the deck you have to remove the entire center panel which gives a lot of room. Dropping the glove box isn't very hard, there's two tabs on either side of the glove box. They're toward the back and you can pull them each out by just kind of pulling on them. Then, you can drop the glovebox all the way and it's very easy to run the cable from the glove to the back of the deck.

i bought a deck beginning of August(panasonic), and if you have more than 1 set of pre-outs (or no subs) then theres a little piece that plugs into the pre-outs, and into the headphone slot in any Ipod or mp3 player. my deck has an auxillary setting, so im not sure about some of the others. all it is, is one little cord that cost me like $15, so it should work on almost any deck.
I tested 6 brands and like the Alpine the best. It's search options are the easiest to use, and you don't have to buy an additional peripheral adapter like Panasonic to get Sirius and use your iPod, they both connect to the deck. I ended up with a Kenwood for my company car which is good as well because Crutchfield was giving out the iPod adapter for free. It's definitely not at easy as the Alpine though.
