need help on my system!
hello to everyone! i have a JL1000/1 powering a JL10w7 (X2). every time a turn the volume up, the subwoofer will stop for a while and then goes on again, then stop.... it goes on cycle. i went to see the LCD on the cap. it reads 8.++ something when the subwoofer stops then it goes up to 12.++ and it will go on again. i have a HO alternator already and a stock battery. anybody knows what should i do? do i need a deep cycle battery or a bigger capacitor?

it's also a possibility the amplifier could be going into protection mode when the volume is turned up...since it is having to do more work than when the volume is down. Check and see if the protection led comes on or the power led goes off (i can't remember which jl amps have). With it being a high end jl amp though i highly doubt it.

thanks to the responses. i dont think it goes on with the protection thing on the amp because i dont experience it until after an hour. after that, when it starts to stop, it goes on a cycle. as what i think, it stops for 3 seconds then recharge then plays for 3 seconds again.... do you think i should just take out my capacitor? or buy a deep cycle batt (stinger)?
it just stop after an hour if the volume is too high. but when the volume is just fine, i dont experience it.

im not sure how the cap is wired and also the size of the wire. i just brought my car to a decent shop and they were the one who installed everything. anyways, how should the cap be wired? i will check on it tomorrow?

if it doesnt do it right away, it sounds like the amp is just overheating. can you ventilate it when this happens and see if it goes away?
According to JL's website:
""My amplifier shuts off once in a while, usually at higher volumes" -
Check your voltage source and grounding point. The R.I.P.S. power supply is rated to operater with source voltage between 11 - 14.5v. Shutdown problems at higher levals can occur when the charging system voltage dropes below 10-volts. These dips can be of very short duration making them extremely difficult to detect with a common DC voltmeter. To ensure proper voltage, inspect all wiring and termination points. It is also a good idea to improve the vehicle's factory ground wire and termination point. Grounding problems are the leading cause of mis-diagnosed amplifier failures."
You may also want to contact them (JL) to see how they would wire the subs from that amp. I know it is their suggestion to use a 500/1 for a 10W7. I don't know about using a 1000/1. It is a MONO (1) channel, used on two subs. I know it can be done, thats now what I'm saying. What I am saying, If JL say's it's ok, then how would they wire it. In parallel, or in series. If you shoot them an email, or even call their tech line, I'm sure they would help.

ok listen to this advice cause this has happen to me. i have 2 big *** subs and out of no where the same thing started to happen to me but they would just go out and come back on..
what happen was is that i have so much bass that the bass rattled out the fuse to my amp just enough that its connected but when it hit hard it would push it loose a little check it and let me know

I still feel you need to refer to the specs from JL. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/7591.pdf Their tech line is very helpfull.
