Alpine Radio Displays
Alpine Radio Displays
Does anyone on here have one of the new Alpine radios with the display that closely matches our odometer? How does it do in the sun? I am looking at a CDA-9856. I have a Pioneer DEH-6600 in my 04 LX Sedan right now. The display does alright in the sun, but the colors don't match very well with my interior & I can't get the metra faceplate to fit all the way flush with the climate control bezel. I have the Metra kit that allows you to keep the pocket. I want to keep the pocket so it looks like I'll have to get a different radio.

Gearbox, That radio looks good in your car. I have a sedan so I would use the blue light setting. But, my real question is: Does the display wash out in the sun so it is unreadable like so many do in our Civics?

oh ya in direct sun you can barely see it. if its sunny but not shining on the display, its readable. the display is very bright when you look straight at it, but from the driver seat it loses some color and brightness. thats the problem. the rsx had a great idea to point it right at your face.

So what you are saying is: It's really not any better than most other displays out there. I wonder if anyone out there has tried the new biolight displays by Alpine on there CDA-9857 Model. I wonder if they are any better in sunlight?

the biolite is actually more of a yelow white and from what i've seen in stores, its not even as bright as their lcd display. the only one you'll be able to see is pioneers OEL display cause the viewing angle is very wide (looks the same from any angle) and its insanely bright.
okayu actually you can still see it in direct sun, even from an angle. its not bright but the numbers can be read.

Thanks for the help. I think I'll go with the Alpine CDA-9856. It looks like none of the displays will be great in our cars. I like the performance of Alpine and
thats what really counts.
