led/relay combo
led/relay combo
Hey guys, I have a quick question for you pros. Me and my brother wired up a purge system to his nitrous system. So we wanted to have a little led that came on when he pushed the purge button, its a momentary push button. So we wired it up to the switch just came off the power side of the switch for the power to the led, and put a resistor on it. Well the problem is the led comes on for a split second then it goes off. We're thinking that the purge solenoid is pulling all the power from it. So I was wondering is there a way that i can hook this up to a relay or something so i can pull power from somewhere else but it will make the led come on? if so how and what kind of relay? Thanks for the help.

put the purge system threw a bosch 12V relay, use only the push button to power the relay coil and the led and run a seperate live wire for the purge system and hook it threw the relay, if you need to know how to wire a relay, look in the DIY, or me and others can tell you how.
Yeah man im definately going to need some help with directions on how to do it. I read the diy on relays but im a newb when it comes to relays. I thought maybe I could just use a bosch relay and come off the wire that comes from the switch and goes to the solenoid. Use that as the wire that goes to the accessory on the relay which should trigger the relay, and have power coming from 12 volt source and power going to led through 87 or w/e. but maybe it would do the same thing then.
Yeah im definately going to need some advice? LOL

im not sure how a purge system works and how much current it draws, i never install that. where are you getting your power from to power that push button that powers the system? what size gauge wire you using? i dont think it would drain that much. what kind of push button u using? and how many amps can it handle?. i can draw the diagram how to connect it with the relay if you want, that would be your best bet

We are getting the power to the momentary switch from the arming switch of the nitrous system. Which connects directly to a relay, which is connected directly to the alternator. To show how much power is being drawn by the purge system. The arming switch, which has a blue led on it when turned on, dims while the purge momentary switch is activated. We're using 14 gauge wire to go to the purge solenoid, directly off the switch. We're using a radio shack momentary push button, its either 1.5 amp or 3 amp, handleing power.
Here is the wiring diagram for the purge system. http://www.nitrousexpress.com/Instructions/purge.pdf
Thanks dude for your help.
