Question about ICE

I had a couple of questions that I was hoping someone in here might help me figure out...
I'm looking at buying an LCD screen for my car and I also want to get a in-car computer that will let me use DVD, MP3, GPS, and some other things... I'm hoping to spend less than 1k though. The reason I'm looking at this stuff is because I've bought subs and going to buy some amps and I want my car to be killer all at once.
(a) I'm looking at buying In-car computer with LCD screen. Would this be a good idea and is it possible to get wireless internet off this thing or should I just buy something else?
(b) Alpine CVA-1003 XM Ready 6.5" Indash Display Would that be a better deal?
(c) NEW PIONEER AVX-7300 7" IN DASH LCD CAR TV How about that?
The main thing that I really want is some type of system that can play DVD, MP3, GPS and maybe upgrade to wireless internet if possible. Any suggestions would be great or if I'm totally looking at crap if you could suggest something better that would be good too.

Well it depends on how much you have to send right now. I say, do one thing at a time, so you can focus specifially on that and make it kick . Work on audio for now, get some new speakers, amps, and make a tight set up in the trunk.

You have a few different options. The Pioneer and the Alpine are both great units. I recommend getting the Pioneer AVX-7000CD not the DVD. If your intention is to be able to play MP3s it will be a lot cheaper to buy the CD model and buy an add-on DVD player that play MP3's as well. That way you can have a DVD/MP3 disc in your DVD player and still swap out CD's in the dash. The Pioneer is considerably cheaper than the Alpine and the Pioneer has 3 different control units to fit your budget. The pioneer also has a detachable face to help deter sticky fingers. Both the Alpine and the Pioneer have GPS units that you can buy, however they are both rather expensive. I'm not 100% sure on this but I believe they both use the same company to build their GPS maps. They both use regular Audio/Video RCA cables so you can hook up just about anything. Both screens are great, however my Pioneer seems to reduce glare a lot better than my Alpine did. As far as wireless internet is concerned that's a whole different issue. Don't know if I can help you on this one. Its a fairly new/expensive concept. Here is my Pioneer AVX-7000CD with the 7000 model brain.

Just some additional to my previous post. I recommend getting one of the in-dash multimedia system versus a seperate screen. For one the in-dash is your whole stereo. You won't have to buy any special adapters or anything like that when trying to integrate the audio with your system. Secondly, IMO, it looks real clean. When you turn the car off the screen folds down and slides into the dash. A theif would be less likely to notice it as a LCD screen. Regardless of which in-dash system you are going to get an excellent sounding unit. You can start off with the in-dash unit and add on as you get the $$$. DVD/MP3, GPS, TV Tuner etc... Its also fairly easy to cover up if you are watching TV when you get pulled over. Since its your stereo too, you just switch it to the radio and flip the switch that allows you to see video while you are in motion. In mine I have a switch that I can flip and on the screen it will say "WARNING, you can not use this feature while driving" If you had a seperate monitor the only time anything will be on there is if you are watching a DVD with the exception of GPS...

I have a kenwood mp3 player. I don't think kenwood makes a motorized in dash tv without the dvd player. I don't want anything except the motorized screen. no dvd or mp3 playability since that will just increase the price. My question is, can i use the pioneer motorized screen with my mp3 player, just use both din spaces??? Are they compatible?

Thanks
Eric

Yah, Kenwood does make a NON-DVD motorized unit. It the P-907. The Kenwood is touch screen and has a built in TV Tuner. The Pioneer and Alpine each have a 7" screen and the Kenwood CD and DVD are both 5.6" screens. The Kenwood is a very nice unit, especially the touch screen. They claim to have a smudge resistent screen but fingerprints are still left on it. I have a friend who has the P-907 and a friend that has the new DVD one. As far as hooking up the MP3 into the Pioneer it can be done. You just hook it up to the Audio/Video inputs on the Pionner however the screen will be blank since your headunit provides no video signal. Or you can just run the units parallel, hook both units up to your stereo at the same time. Its kind of redundant though. I would recomend selling your MP3's player and buying the DVD/MP3 player for $200. The DVD players have onscreen display of folders and filenames of your MP3 disc. Plus you can fast forward and rewind with them. I know some MP3 players will not.

Just look on ebay for a DVD/MP3 player. There are about 10 different ones.
