Keeping stock deck
Ok, this might be dumb, but is it possible to run a system and keep my stock deck?
I HAVE a Pioneer DEH-6300, but it's not installed. http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-Pioneer_DEH_P6300
When/if I ever get around to reinstalling my system, it will be:
New speakers in the front /w tweeters. (6 1/2)
New spearkers in the rear. (6x9)
Subs.
1 2chan Amp for the subs
1 4chan Amp for the speakers
I'm thinking I may just want to keep the stock deck - the gauges on my LX are all that orange/red colour... the deck is blue! (and i haven't decided to go ahead with the colour changing mod yet...). Plus it's just something else they can steal
1) Anyways, is it possible to keep the stock deck?
2) given the specs of my deck - would I just be better off to sell it and get a different one? (concern is the # of pre-outs - speakers are wired as one, subs as another, ect.)
3) Finally, how do the stock tweeters work in the Civic LX? ...the aftermarket componet speakers I'm going to use to replace the stock ones require the use of a 'cross-over'
(bear in mind, I know very little about electronics and speakers)
Thanks!

You can keep the stock deck, but you have more control and options with an aftermarket unit. You'll be dealing amplified inputs instead of the pre-amp connections you get with an aftermarket head unit. Some amps have line out inputs or you can buy a separate line out converter that will take the signal from your speaker wires.
Stock tweeters have a primitive crossover - just a resistor inline to block the lower frequencies. A true crossover has more sophisticated capabiliteis.

Get rid of the stock deck. Its total crap, and anyone who disagrees with me knows nothing about audio. Stock tweeters are pratically useless in the car. I still have mine in there. They work and all, but you can barely hear them. My fronts 6.5's over power them. I'm running the front and rear speakers off my deck as well (aftermarket deck of course).
One last word of advice, don't get a 2 ch amp for subs. Get a monoblock amp. 1 ch amp for subs, and it doesn't matter if you have more than 1 sub.

Since you are worried with theif, here's my suggestion.
Rip apart the stock deck so all you are left with is the "faceplate."
Recess the Pioneer deck a bit more inward when you install it.
When you leave the car, take the Pioneer faceplate off and place the stock "faceplate" to give your car a stock appearance.
I have an extra stock cassette deck already modified if you are interested in one.
2. Although you can make use of the stock deck, I say keep the aftermarket one.
3. You do not have separately mounted tweeters in your LX. You will have to purchase EX sail panels (which come with a tweeter space) or be creative with the tweeter install.
The crossover splits the high and low frequencies and sends it to its respective components. Bass to the door mounted speaker and treble to the tweeter.
EDIT: This is if you have a coupe. If you have a sedan, you'll have to just be creative since no (NA) sedans come with stock tweeters.

Gotcha... so staying with the aftermarket deck then... hah.
I already have the amps and what not - I think I can 'bridge' the 2 chan amp to make it function as a mono... but again, I know squat on this stuff!
The LX has stock tweeters... it has the speakers by the feet and tweeters up beside the mirror.
Just curious how they work - does honda have a crossover built in or something?
...on a final note I forgot to ask - do I need to get a new 'dash-kit' to install my aftermarket deck? I mean, is there a way I can just pop the stock one out and put the new one in (still keep the little cd cubby with the little door).
Thanks!
