bah, what's wrong with my alpine?

jeez i've only had it a few months and its already crapping out. It is starting to completely freeze for a few seconds on and off at random times. the music turns off, and a few secs later comes back on. sometimes it will do it non stop and other times it will play fine for a few minutes. The deck stays on just freezes. and a few times it froze for 10 secs or more and i could hear the laser seeking the cd and finally it skipped to the next track.

now i've tried a brand new cd even tho the old one wasn't scratched. nothing. i know the amp is fine because when it happens everything turns off (tweets are hooked to deck). It does it stopped, engine off, engine on, and driving. I don't know wtf to do. seems like aftermarket parts have an average life of less than a year these days. so much for alpine quality.

my car is cursed i already realize that. just wanna fix this problem. yea it did get cold for a few days like 10F but wow i've had my pioneer through 2 winters getting below 0F! i dont understand how the laser lens can just crack. and actually today it was warmer above freezing... didnt hit any potholes either.

you could have had dirt or something small on the cd you loaded and when the cd started spinning it messed up the lens

try a cd cleaning kit it might help

oh yea gear thanks for the washer nozzle idea

Man you have some shitty luck with your car lately. I know exactly how that feels like. Look on the bright side, at least you didn't get hit 5 times in one year like my car has.

hmm well i am always very careful. cds go straight from the burner to the deck or in protective covers. i always look to make sure its clean. and the alpine info says never use cd cleaning kits. should i spray some compressed air? its so annoying having the music cut out. oh another thing i dont even turn the volume up past 10 or 12.

well the deck stays on and the connections are soldered and rca to amp. plus i really dont think the connections suddenly are falling apart and then coming back on when the car is sitting still. i tried the air so we'll see.

man you have the absolute worst luck of anyone i've ever met. i'd take it to best buy and have them fix it once and for all that way if anything ever happens again you can take it back and be like yeah it broke again so you have to fix it for free. lol haha
anyway i was just thinking about getting an alpine deck the other day. so much for that thought lol.

gearbox, If you have a multimeter i would check the voltage to the deck, ive had problems with the voltage dropping below 12v and the deck would tweak out, sometimes just reset, from the symptoms you described it could be very likely that could be the problem, or a dirty lens but they are pretty hard to get dirty if your careful.

do you have a PSP or PRP? if you have a PRP they will replace it but if you have a PSP.... then either they will replace it if they deem it a "devo" item which means that it is not to be sent out or they will send it out and you will not get it back for another 3 weeks.

sorry guys I am a little retarded. When installing my hood light today, I tapped it off the sirius power wire and well I must have pulled on it a little cause at the battery the connection was almost falling off. so every time i hit a bump or even standing still the sirius receiver would keep resetting (with a few seconds delay from turning off) and that was causing the hu to get confused. I put on a real ring terminal and problem solved. both times. thanks!

Thank God it was just a wire situation! I cruised this forum for months before actually joining and one of the constant's here has been Gearbox advocating aftermarket systems, especially Alpine. I just got the Alpine CDA-9856, mainly because of the advice and praise here over their models, and finished installing it yesterday. You can imagine my terror when I came back and found THIS thread!!! OMG! I wanted to die, all the way up until the last couple of postings! On the bright side, though, it's nice to see that even big shots like Gearbox can make simple mistakes from time to time...

i had a similar problem with my deck. it turned out that the ground wire was coming of the tap after hitting a bump or when it vibrated lose. i love my deck, going on 3 years on weds, alpine 7894 OlDsKooL

you know what, i'm gonna have to blame circuit city on this one too. when they installed my alarm power they used a tiny, crappy ring connector and when i installed the sirius wire i just wrapped it around the alarm terminal. then when i was tugging the wire, it came right out of the connector. i just replaced it with a nice gold plated version

one thing i still want to do this summer is run a dedicated power and ground to the deck so there is no worry about the thin stock wires not providing enough power.
