Amp wiring questions

Hello,

I am going to install a new amp in my car. I was just wondering what the steps are to safely remove and install a new amp (i.e. should ground wire be connected/disconnected first, then power, etc)?

I saw a few small sparks when connecting the power wire to another amp I installed (due to the fact that the power wire was connected to the battery when connecting the new amp). Will this harm the amp? How can I avoid this?

Also, I have read that you should remove the negative ground wire from the battery before connecting an amp. Is this true?

Thanks!

Befor you start any work on anything electrucal in your car ALWAYS disconnect the negative cable from your battery. If you wanted to make extra sure remove your in-line fuse from your amp power cable. Then you wont get any sparks.

Best advice around. Disconnect the negative from your battery, do all of the wiring, then reconnect the negative as the last part of the installation.

Done....

I disconnected the negative terminal from my battery before connecting my amps. However when I reconnected the negative battery terminal at the end of my install, I noticed a few sparks as I made the initial connection to the terminal. Is this normal?
