Unhappy Radio won't power on

I saw this on here before but it doesn't fix my problem.
I have a 2001 Civic EX with the CD player. The thing is that I was wiring up the foglights I bought off ebay that didn't come with a wiring diagram and the wires didn't match the diagram from the chiltons book. SO I proceeded to look for a power source through the fuse box. At some point I blew both fuses, under the hood and dash. After finding the power source and getting the fod lights working, I replaced the fuses but the radio didn' t come back on. I unhooked the battery, didn't work, checked the wires behind the radio, didn't work. The weird thing is that Later today, I got back into my car to go out and just out of curiosity, I hit the power button again and it came on but about 10 minutes later it went out again.

I have no clue were to look for this problem.
Please help the silence is killing me!

"Aw614
the screen was blank and I was using an OEM cassette deck that came with my civic. But the rest of the radio would light up. I probably am going to remove it again just to make sure the wires are on tighter just incase, since I had the radio not turn on before only to turn on in the middle of driving by itself and proceeded to work for a few months up until this weekened when it just didn't work."

if you have access to a DMM, test the power wires and ground wires in the factory harness. You sure you checked every fuse?? Even if a fuse doesnt look blown it could still break a circuit

It did it again today. Twice it came on for a little and turned off.
I haven't had time to double check the fuses but they were fresh out of the package.

either loose power connection or an internal problem

yup, as grenloch said, check with DMM. unplug your radio and check the harness for constant and ignition. if you have both, and have ground, then probably HU's internal problem.

I know you're trying to help but that is extremly generic. Loose power connection where, where does the power connect to the fusebox?

Sorry just a little frustrated.

The first thing that I would do would be undo the wiring that you ran for the foglights. Disconnect it as close to the power source as you possibly can. As this problem surfaced when you installed these foglights, it would make sense that the first course of action in troubleshooting would be to uninstall them (removing their wires from the fusebox would be good enough).

yes that would be first thing to do, if you don't have problem anymore, then it's in your fog light wiring. but if you still have the problem, check the harness that plugs in your radio. remove the harness from the radio and get a DMM, then check for constant 12 volt, ignition 12 volt (only there when car is on or at acc.), then check for ground. if you have all 3, the harness is either not completly connecting to the radio, or the radio has a internal problem. all you need to make a HU work is those 3 power wires, so if you have them, it's gotta be something with the radio or a loose connection.

just to build off of reverb's post:
white with a red stripe should have +12 volts
black should show continuity with a good ground
yellow with a red stripe should show +12 volts with the key turned to Acc or Ign

If those wires all test ok then:
make sure the plug is seating correctly into the back of the headunit
check to make sure any of the pins arent being pushed out of the harness

If everything above checks out:
start shopping for a new deck

first things first, disconnect the fogs. everything you changed, put it back to stock. then see if the stereo works. then work from there.

hey I noticed you quoted my post, not sure if my problem is the same as yours, but my radio has acted up again and on the same day too, saturday, from a month ago. BUt I do think like the others have mentioned it has something to do with your fogs you just installed. I do not have fogs on my civic, but I think I have narrowed my problem down to the wiring or the headunit itself, worst case is the headunit, probably going to follow the advice of grenloch101056 and go from there, its just strange that every month on sat my radio just doesnt work anymore after workijng fine the previous day
