I'm 99% percent sure the DVD players and CD players have different lasers.
Yes you can make an mp3 cd without the gap. I'm not sure what burning software you are using though. I guess its software dependant.

If its 2 seconds in between non mp3 cds, it is software dependent like phuviano said.
If its 2 seconds in between mp3 cds, then that's how long it takes for your HU to go from mp3 file to mp3 file.
I remember my old Pioneer deck had 5+ second pauses in between mp3 files.

yes dvd's & cd's use different lasers, and there is another kind of laser coming out (blu ray) wich on a dual layer blu ray disc can hold 50GB (instead of dvd's 8.5GB) anyways, you can not play mp3 dvd's on mp3 cd player. There is a way to play dvd mp3's on any dvd player that plays mp3's, you can do it with the new nero 7.
