Alpine Speakers
ok.....so its been a long time since ive been on here...i just recently purchased 4 Alpine Type S 2-way speakers for my 2001 Civic EX sedan....i was wondering if anyone else here has replaced their stock speakers with these alpine? i would like to know if theyre alot better than stock...cuz frankly, im kinda impressed with the stock speakers....i kinda want to know if these Alpines will reproduce bass better than stock and produce highs as well....like are they clear and loud all around?...bottom line...anyone who can tell me how they sound please let me know....im also powering them off an Alpine CDA 9847 head unit.....so if u know anything about the Alpine Type S speakers and how they sound, please post back and tell me what u know/think....liek i sed....i liek the stock speakers and i just want the alpines to be better.....
In general, aftermarket speakers don't produce the same kind of bass that stock paper cone speakers do. The bass you'll get out of the alpines will be tighter but it probably won't be as deep as the paper ones. So I guess the answer to your question is that it depends on what kind of sound reproduction you're looking for. They'll reproduce upper and mid bass better than the stock ones but you're definitely not going to be tricked into thinking you have a sub. Are you going to have them ampped or running off of a stock deck because this will also effect how loud/clear they are.

I think that u mean that the Alpines wont produce the "distorted bass/sound" that the stock speakers do. Those new Type S's will sound way better to anyone who can distinguish quality from crap (some cant tell the differece because they simply dont listen to the music, they only "hear" it)
Not only will the bass be tighter but it will also deeper. The Alpines have a larger magnet, better construction {rubber surround, non paper cone, tweeters,...} and they produce a larger range of Hz. So it will play deeper bass and higher notes while sounding clearer at the same time. With less distortion.
U also might want to get an amp for these if you dont like the sound. Alot of the time aftermarket speakers will be underpowered if you only use the stock deck as the power source. U could get a small amp that does 30-40w RMS to each speaker and it would sound a ton beter

im powering these puppies off of an Alpine deck running 18 RMS.....not too bad....so in general i get the impression that i should go ahead and install the Type S speakers? i do need tighter bass cuz thats what the stock speakers lack, but im also hearing that the lower bass levels wont come thru as well? in any case will distortion be at a minimum and will the overall bass performance be better than stock ?? also, will i have sufficient power to make them sound like something i can be proud of? will i be happier with these over stock ?
The alpines are much better than stock! They'll sound great at reasonable sound levels, but you'll really have something to be proud of if you decide to amp them too. It doesn't take a super expensive amp either.

The Type-S are a fine speaker really... not for me, but for somebody wanting something basic they are decent. The big benefit with the SPS-171A is that they are made specifically for a 7th gen, with spacers included and tweeters that drop right into the sail panels. Tweeters are a bit harsh, but that can be fixed by attenuating them slightly, and I found they distorted at certain frequencies... mostly while I was running them on deck power, on amp power they were fine
Yes it will sound much better. The reason this isnt a simple answer is because of how cheap speakers are made. Since they have no money thrown at them at all they tend to be bass heavy as compared to any other aftermarket speaker. Now if you turn up the stock speakers on 18w rms theres a good chance of blowing them. Where as with the S they wont blow at higher volumes. Its a complex circular answer that can go around and around but no one will argue for keeping the stock speakers over type S.
wow...yall make the type s's sound kinda like cheap or budget speakers lol....i know they arent nearly the best speakers out there....but i know theyre really good....well as long as u think ill be happy with the type s's and the new alpine head unit, then ok....u guys seem to all at least agree that i should replace them....especially for the fact that i can crank them because they aint made of paper....but in the end yall think the sound quality is very good or moderate or what? sorry to be a pain in the ***, but throw more conjecture at me...i wanna know everything before i decide to install and all....thanx alot!! tell me anything about sound quality that u can....ive already bought them, im just waiting to know if i should install them (keep in mind i wont be able to afford the amp and sub for a few months, so will i be very happy with the sound of the type s's? can i be pround of them? (keep in mind i was pretty impressed by the stock speakers lol) ty much!

Just remember that your system will only be as good as your weakest link and that link in your current system will be the fact that you don't have an amp. If you decide to get a decent amp your speakers will probably be the weak point, but it will sound a lot better than just running them off the deck. The trick in a good system is matching the different components so that eveything is relativley equal. Seriously man if you don't like the alpines you can always take em out and either go back to stock or spend more on a better set up. The front speakers are really easy to install so just get out there and do it, or have it done and BE PROUD of em.
