a guy from www.caraudio.com recommended me fatmat over dynamat because it was cheaper and easier to apply for the DIYers. but then, i never bought any sound deadners yet.

hopefully someone else will chime in, i would like to know as well.

When I bought FatMat back in 03 the main eBay seller was
*www.armoryourbody.com*

http://feedback.ebay.com/ebaymotors/...myourbody.com*

When I bought it from the seller everything was prompt and quick...then I guess he/she started faltering soon afterwards.

Could the seller on eBay right now be the same person with a new ID for a fresh start?

FWIW, second skin is generally accepted as one of the best sound deadeners. Price/quality is unbeatable. Again, refer to sound deadener showdown for proof/more info.

I used fatmat in my civic, when I owned it. I installed in in 2001, it's still on the vehicle just as I applied it back then, as the gf's sister now owns and drives the vehicle. You ahve to do the prep work correctly. Clean everything and then wipe it down with a soft cloth fully drying it, if need be, hit it with a heat gun to dry up any remaining water droplets. I installed mine during winter, so I put a space heater in the vehicle and also used blower heaters in teh garage to keep the vehicle panels nice and warm. I applied it with a roller I cnc milled in high school about 6 months before graduating in early 01. The cheap plastic roller they provide is garbage. Roll it on with at least a wooden roller, available at a hardware store for less than 3 bucks. A heat gun is also very helpful. I love their product and for the price, you can't beat it, IMO.

Besides that, I ordered directly from teh manufacturer. Shipped out the next day and I had it within a week of ordering.

When I ordered some FatMat for Sound Deadener Showdown it took them about 2 months to get it to me. I called repeatedly and each time they told me it had shipped a few days before. I e-mailed a bunch of times and they never responded. They finally sent it after I told the story on another forum.

Any of the asphalt based vibration dampers are going to be chancy, especially if you live somewhere warm. They may be OK, may not. All of them, except Brown Bread, Dynamat Original and the stuff sold by Parts Express - same as Dynamat Original - are roofing repair material - MFM Peel & Seal, Protecto Wrap or something like that. I have it on good authority that FatMat is MFM Peel & Seal.

It depends on the batch, how old it is and how it has been stored before it gets to you. Like I said, the asphalt mats are iffy. Search around and you will find many people having problems and many doing OK. Search for the butyl products - Dynamat Xtreme, Second Skin, RAAMmat, B-Quiet Ultimate (not Extreme) and I have not been able to find a single reported failure.

Everything I have seen makes it clear that butyl is not only more durable than asphalt, but much more effective at damping vibration. I've also had several reports, from seemingly reliable sources, that asphalt mats produce toxic fumes in enclosed spaces.

When you compare the price difference and then consider that asphalt may or may not stick, is less effective, may or may not be toxic - well, you can see where I am gong with this
