Gearbox of all people should know if there's any circuit boards back there.
You'll have to drill a hole because the gauge has depth to it, so its not like you can just stick the face to it. But you'll need to figure out whats behind it for about 2" or so.

hmm ya well for the lx/ex there is circuitboard at the very back of the cluster housing. not sure if the dx is the same but i'll assume it is for manufacture purpose. someone did fit gauges there and they looked pretty flat so i guess its possible. just don't drill into the circuits lol

drilling into circuit boards?? whats wrong with that? those are completely optional, obviously. who needs circuit boards? waste of space.

tho... do you know if there are blackboxes in our cars? i've been searching everywhere for it, i know that new GM cars have them, but i don't know if the government also makes import vehicles install them as well... i definitely need to figure out how to top 110 mph in an auto, cause i'm pingin that all day long on 280 south here and i'm not gonna install nitrous unless i can get rid of the limiter/governer/blackbox. not sure if its in a hidden black box, or whether its the rpm topping out in 4th gear, or whether its just a governer relay somewhere... got info?

wait what happens at 110? does the rpm just get too high, or is it actually just cutting fuel even tho you could rev higher. i've made it to 100 a couple times and felt like it could just keep going til redline.

its the exact feeling of hitting the rev limiter, but its definitely not at the total end of the power curve... it feels like there is more power available about that, so that's why i'm thinkin its not the rev limiter on the engine but a governer (like your saying, something that cuts off the fuel supply at a certain speed)

do you know what rpms you are at at 100 mph in your auto? i could probably figure it out with that number.....

I checked the VP/DX tachless cluster thats sitting in my closet. There is one big circuit board that covers the whole back of the cluster. If you drill, you'll take out some traces and some surface mount components that may render your cluster useless. My cluster is manual but the board has spots where the factory could have soldered some auto trans. indicators lights. May be the same board just configured differently . Hope this helps.
