sub offer
A friend of a friend is going to sell me his 2 350 watt 10" pioneers "almost new" according to him, plus a box for them. All for $80... and I'm trying to find the catch. Are there other ways besides listening to them to tell if they're broken?
Thanks guys,
andrew

Gently push on the woofer, enough to be able to move it a couple of inches but not enough to tear it. If you hear a scratching noise they are shot. Also ask if you can remove them from the box and check the connectors. I blew some punches because the wire attached to the voice coil and the connecting leads had come apart. 80 bucks isn't a bad deal, especially with the box. AS long as it is not homemade.
there is nothing wrong with homemade boxes, as long as they are made correctly. I would just ask him to hook them up for a listen before you buy them. if he says no, then tell him where to go.
I agree with uncleb. have him hook the subs up and listen to them. See how they sound . You can tell if a sub is blown by the way they sound sometimes. also do what the other guys said.

well he's not a friend... a friend of a friend
so i don't trust him much. But for $80 they're all ready to go and if they look and sound good I'm buying them tomorrow.
Thanks for your help, especially Rebew1... i'll try all that before I pay
