Dual Speakers better than stock?
Dual Speakers better than stock?
I purchased a new alpine head unit today and it came with two free Dual speakers. At first I assumed they were really, really crappy, but after looking at them I don't know. They handle 120 W peak each, they're 6.5" components, and here's the official low down on 'em:

<can't post direct links, add the dubyas>
However mine look much prettier than that, they have this nice painted red metallic color over the tweeter. Same specs though.
If I do put them in, where should I? I'm getting two 12"s for the back, so should I put them up front? (I have a coupe)

I think anything would be better than stock. These seem like their better than stock.
Yes, put them up front. Don't put them in the back. It would make your system sound like crap in the back. I'm assuming you have stock speakers in the back too.

Yes I do have stock speakers in the back, but I found out that my new head unit is only rated at 16W RMS x 4, and these speakers have a max rating of 120W but no RMS rating - anyone know if this would sound decent or should I just try it and see?

I say you do install them. Its very easy to install front speakers in your car. The rear speakers are the ones which are a pain in the butt to install.
Install them, and test them out first before putting your door panels back on. Makes less work for you if you decide that you don't like the sound.

those speakers are crap, but the dual junk sells out of our store like nothing else just because it appeals to the ballers on a budget.
It'll probably be better than stock, but not by much. Make sure you high pass the signal going to the speakers or install bass blockers.
Dont worry about your deck not being powerful enough, Dual doesnt publish the rms ratings because their target market isnt that interested in real world ratings.

well if they are pianted then yes they will sound better. Painted speakers show a level of quality that brands like JL audio And alpine type x just wont dare even try. Yes they are better but by how much? who knows they were free install them and find out.
The speakers sucked, however I did learn how to take apart my door. :-) Kept the stocks, they seemed bass-ier, and the duals didn't produce any bass at all, really only mids and highs, no midbass.

If you plan to put in a sub, I'd recommend keep the new speakers instead of the stock ones. If you put in a sub, depending on how loud you turn on your system, the subs you put in may drown out of the front speakers.
I say keep the aftermarket ones in there.
Wait until you get your subs, and then you may have a better understanding of what I mean.

haha sometimes its fun to watch people shop for stereos that have NO CLUE. they just think everything is the same. Sometimes I've saved a few by explaining what a pos they're about to buy.
What are some lower-end, not too pricey speakers that I could run without amping just straight from my CDE-9845 Alpine deck that would be better than stock and be at least decent? Factoids on the head unit - 16W RMS x 4
