Audio: want to keep stock headunit, good idea?
Audio: want to keep stock headunit, good idea?
Dear,
I want to upgrade my sound quality in the car. I would like to keep my current stock HONDA unit, since it fits so nice with my dashboard.
Will replacing the current speakers(stock now) already improve a LOT?(especially when you set the volume louder) ?
Which one would you advice for replacement speakers? I don't want to "damage" my car, and I prefer to just simply swap the speakers..
Also, at the back(next to the backseat) I have space for 2 speakers as well. Do you know if the wires for the connections are already there, or should I "wire" it myself from the headunit?
Sorry for my bad English BTW, I am Dutch

Changing the speakers will make a huge difference, but if you want sound quality change the HU too.Alpine is fantastic,Eclipse is quite good I just don't like the looks of their decks.Infinty or Boston Acoustics are great sounding speakers for the money. All of theirs sound good the bottom and top lines. Go components up front. If you have a coupe I think they are 6x9's in back. Mine are anyways.

Thanks for the reply. I will try different speakers first. I would love to keep my current HU(becauseof the great looks)
Also I will install my IPOD:-)

It will improve your sound quality only slightly if you just replace the speakers. Replace the speakers and the head unit and you will get a much better improvement. Add an external amplifier and you will get an even bigger improvement. If you spend the least amount of money, and do the least possible work, expect the least possible results

replace speakers and amp em. you can still do that and keep the stock deck altho there are some decks that match as good or better than stock.

good idea. and you will also need some sort of line level converter to hook up the amp to rca connections unless your amp has speaker level inputs and you feel like doing it that way.

the stock deck doesn't have rca plugs to hook up an amp. so either your amp has to have an extra input for speaker wires (instead of rcas), or you need a converter to make the speaker wires into rcas (that you can plug to the amp). i think alpine makes something for this. just search around.
JL has come out with a product that will work with OEM Headunits...it'll allow for a Ipod and it will take the sound and amplify it into a better signal(so they say). I found it last night, but still lost on what it exactly does.

Just remember that the sound starts out from the HU. Speakers are the just the output of what the HU can give.
Anyways, your car, your money. I can't really tell you what to do, but this is my opinion on it. Either way, enjoy your new system. It'll be better than stock at least..lol.
