False Wall Installation

I am planning on putting 2 12"s behind a false wall in my trunk, because I think it looks very clean and is just one more ounce of theft deterrence. However I have a couple of questions about how you guys go about doing this:

Do you use the false trunk wall as the front of your enclosure? In my enclosure the subs will be facing towards the rear of the vehicle, so either the false wall functions as the front of my enclosure or I build my enclosure and then put the false wall in front of it, with holes for the subs to go through. I'm worried that this won't come out very flush looking, however, because the subs will look sunken back into the wall. I guess I could use a thinner material on the wall, say 1/4", but would that be enough thickness to keep the wall from being too weak? Also do you recommend using mdf for the wall as well if I'm not using it as the front of my enclosure? I don't know if cutting curves to fit the trunk would be harder using mdf than say, plywood.

Thanks in advance,
synod

kind of confused about your plans. You want to build a wall in your trunk and use that as the front plane of the enclosure and mount your subs to?

mdf is much easier to cut than plywood

That was the original plan grenloch, but after I thought about it I realized that might not be my best option. However for that same effect I was thinking of building two boxes (one for each sub) separate from the wall, and mounting the wall in front of them (with holes for the subs to show through). I figure this will make for much easier removal of the system in case something goes awry.

Do you agree or do you think I SHOULD use the wall as the front plane of enclosure, and mount the subs to the wall?

i think having two enclosures behind the board would be a much better option.

Measure the height of the speaker when its surface mounted and then find a board that thickness. It'll make the subs look like there flushed in and will clean up your trunk alot. Most subs will need a .5 inch thick board
