Guages fading in and out
Guages fading in and out
Well I think my guages are messed up because they fade in and out all the time now. My question is can i just buy the power invertor thing because really the guages themselves are fine but the inverter is messed up. You can actually hear a really quiet high pitched noise coming from it. Like its screaming...
So if I can buy the power invertor thing: what is it technically called and were can I find them?
Thanks

are they flickering? it could just be a bad ground. Make sure the ground is on bare chassis metal and not someplace stupid. I had a shop install my first indiglos and they didn't ground it well so they kept turning off and on. if the inverter is bad, they won't work at all. the hi pitch sound is normal. go here if you still wanna try a new one if changing the ground doesn't work. www.autodynamic.com

all types of inverters will make noise. I assume we are talking about EL Guages, like gear said the ground is prob the culprate. It could also be the EL going out since they have a life span but they mostly dim and will stay dim if that is occuring. How long have u had them for ? who did the install ?

"Like any lighting source, el-wire will eventually need to be replaced. Unlike traditional lighting sources however, your cool neon el-wire will slowly fade so that you do not have to worry about it going out completely while in use. You will see it slowly dim and decide for yourself when you want to replace it. The life span of el-wire will vary widely (from ~1,000 to ~25,000 hours of continuous operation) depending upon how much wire you are lighting and with what kind of power."

OK I will check the ground tonight. The ground is at some screw behind where the lighter is. They have been installed for almost a year now and just started to go bad. They don't really flicker. They usually start at full power and then fade out gradually and then at any given instant they come back to full power and repeat the cycle. Thats why i thought the inverter might be messed up because they have the potential to work at full power, they just fade away from it.

I also checked the ground and re-ground it a different spot just to be certain and they still fade out and then spring back to life at random. Its got to be the inverter.
