Well,
For somethign like that... A FUll integration you're only option is to take it to a Highly repuatable installer and pay the $$$$ to have it done.. It's not a DIY Project for sure. If you wanna Slap a lap top under the seat, remote mount the LCD Screen and geta flat panel keyboard. That's a good DIY.. But not a full PC system integration.

yeah thats a pretty good idea... im gonna toss my mobo under the seat and a all the components under there... but what i was thinking is to buy an old ibm laptop... u know those 486's on ebay (8.5" screen, dunno if it will fit, gotta measure).. there about $25. i wanna see if there is a way to convert the ribbon of the lcd in the laptop to a standard RGB video cable. i have seen some people trying to develop there own with the wiring. but maybe i could buy an lcd that already has the vfa cable.
if anyone still has any other ideas, pls let me know... we gotta get this idea goin. i dont want to buy someone elses kit for $1,000 or more.
the other thing i want to do is convert the DC power from the battery directly to the mobo without a power supply.... if possible... gotta figure that one out too! im dunno if it will be very stable... might shock the mother board when starting the car or something if there is no power supply.

Don't get a 486, they are worthless for almost anything. They won't play MP3s under windows/dos, though I don't know about Linux since I never tried. The CD player would work, but you coudn't run any really neat visualizations on the screen. Your screen would just say:
C:>
Not too exciting.

ok i know for visualiztion a 486 would not be good... bu just for mp3's a 486 is just fine. at the moment im running a program called "barebones mp3" you can search it under google. its great! all u need is
mobo
ram
cdrom
floppy
soundcard
and 486 66mhz or greater works for me
video card(if needed)
and keyboard
works like a charm!

I've contacted a couple of complanies that make SVGA screen to rca converters.... They say that you can't use a "DUALSCAN" screen which is found on most older laptops including one of my old Pentium 90's. (I was bummed, I had the same idea)
Anyways, The ones I found only sell a screen with a converter... expensive though.
