here's the deal. i have the audiobahn a8002t amp. not the best but its ok. its hooked up to 2 10' sony xplods. - garbage. got them for free. only 200 watts going to each sub right now.

I want to switch it up to 1 12' alpine type r. they are 500 watts. i know i would need the dual 2 ohm sub to run with my amp.

Question is, would it be louder and how would the sound compare?

The answer to your question is it might be louder, might not be. Might sound better or might sound worse.

There's a whole lot more going on when changing subs than the wattage and brand.

What kind of enclosure do you have your Sony subs in? What will you be putting the Alpine in? What kind of HU are you running it off of? What kind of music do you listen to, and what do you look for in a 'good' sub setup?
