trouble with Best Buy, HELP!, need advice
I am hoping to get some advice, I had a terrible experience with Best Buy and I am trying to decide what to do. First I got some infinity 6.5's off the internet for my rear deck and after looking into the process of replacing them myself I decided to get them "professionally" installed. I called around, and being in a bit of a hurry (i was leaving on a trip the next day), I set up an appointment at Best Buy to get them installed that night.
After being told I couldnt hang around and watch them do the install, and then waiting around for 2 hours for them to finish the install I got my car back only to find that they had just fudged and screwed the speakers in from the bottom. Upon looking closer, they had one speaker installed using the mounting ring from the box and the other was mounted directly to the bottom of the deck. Both were screwed in from the bottom like i said, with only 3 screws each, 2 of which fell out when i touched them. Needless to say i was a bit pissed, at my self for going home before i checked the install and at them for not doing the job right. I then began to wonder how the heck they had gotten the old speakers out, I checked in my trunk and found the old speakers, broken practically in half. They had destroyed them in order to take them out from the bottom so they didnt have to take off the top of the rear deck.
Well like I said, I went on vacation the next day, drove to Washington state. I decided that I'd take it in to the local Best Buy there and get it fixed before the rest of the screws fell out and the speakers dropped into my trunk. I got it into the store, they got the speakers mounted from the top. And I was off, thinking all was fixed. Well, no it wasnt. The deck now rattled with every bump in the road, didnt even have to have the stereo turned on, and after a 800 mile journey back home, I was a bit frustrated.
Well, I finally got around to taking it back to my local Best Buy to try and get them to fix the rattling, after explaining to the installer for 10 minutes that the noise was not speaker buzzing or rattling caused by bass I left him to fix the problem. After another 2 hours i went back only to have him tell me he couldnt find what was wrong, he couldnt seem to hear any buzzing sound and that maybe it was just the speakers. I was exasperated, he hadnt listened to me at all. I didnt have time for him to screw around with it any more so I decided i'd bring it back later.
Finally I got a hold of the manager of the Best Buy install bay on the phone, explained the problem, got some understanding, and got an appointment to get it fixed. By this time i had ordered some Infinity 6.5's for my front doors and decided i might as well have them install those at the same time (i dont know what i was thinking). I got a phone quote of 60 bucks for the dynamat kits for the doors and was told that they would install them for free with the speaker install.
So then at my most recent trip to Best Buy I once again installed to the installer about my rear deck rattleing, and decided that even if i had to stand out in the cold i would watch them do the job. I watched for a hour as the installer tried to take off the panel of my passenger side door, prying with all sorts of tools, and finally taking it off. Next came the worst job of installing dynamat I can imagine a professional place doing, and right in front of me. No cleaning the door with anything, just peeling off the plastic covering and gettin to work. Cutting piece by piece off and pressing it onto the door by hand. Finally when i figured he was about 70-80% done with the dynamat he mounts the speaker and puts the panel back on. Anyway, after another installer took over for the other door, did a slightly better job the put the panel back on, with out reconnecting the interior door release, they decided to work on the rear deck. Once again i had to explain that it wasnt the speakers and it was actually the deck and how it had been mounted last time it had been taken off. They began taking off the paneling and what not to get the back deck off, once stopping to tell me that strangely, magically, one of the side pads on the seat was broken and it wasnt their fault, right... Finally after nearly 4 hours from the time i had got there they finally had everything installed and the rear deck mounted correctly.
Well now, is everything fixed??? NOPE! Since getting the car back from them that day, i have discovered that not only is my driver side door rattling, my passenger side door lock rattling, and of course my side pad on my rear seat broken, that part of the handle of the door on the drivers side, that covers the screws and electronics and such, is so loose now that it just falls off occasionally, if you grip the door handle too hard or close the door too hard.
What in the heck should i do? I am so frustrated at Best Buy I almost am ready to take it somewhere else to get things sorted out. Please help with some advice!

go online...find the corporate address. send them a letter explaining everything (not an e-mail. or send both a letter AND an email)... and talk to the manager of the store, not just the service manager. i'd get a refund, if at all possible!
First, would your honestly trust the same store to work on your car ever again, much less the honesty and integrity, plus the skill to actually fix the car when they could not do it right the first time?
If it were me, I would not deal with that store again. That leaves you with the fact that your car is not fixed to your satisfaction.
You can do one of two things. First contact the district manager of the region of Best Buy you are in. They will have a shop with a more experienced and senior installer that takes care of customer issues. Have them fix your car to your specifications and have them replace the speakers they destroyed or give you store credit. If you write a good letter stating your concerns and issues, you may wind up with your car fixed and a nice gift certificate. But you have to be firm, polite, and intelligent to get everything taken care of.
Or you could take it to a better shop, have them fix everything and submit a bill to Best Buy and force them to pay for it. Two problems, you would have to find a really good install shop and you would have to pay for it yourself and hope to get reimbursed. It may take a lot of letters and a lot of time to get this done, but your car would finally be right.

Best thing to do it do it yourself. Always
Next time ask here and get flamed for posting someone posted a million times before but someone will finally give you a link and then after that you can know how to do it yourself.
But you need to call them up, the corporate office, and complain till they can't stand you anymore. Be polite but extremly assertive. It will go a long way over yelling. If you get the person on the phone to be ok with talking to you, not annoyed, then they will help you more.

i dont think best buy can say u can watch them and even if they did say that i wouldve stayed no matter wat cause i always see wat anyone does to my car. next thing that you did wrong is taking it the same people several times when you shouldve taken it to someone else, yes i understand taking it to them the 2nd time but the 3rd nd 4th? c'mon man if they cant do it right the first time or second time wat would make you think they would do it right ever? anyways you can prob get a refund but you can also try doin wat everyone else said. gl

i had a similar circuit city experience. except that with the front speakers, they installed the spacers crooked and one of the screws had "missed" the hole and cracked the mounting kit. but they thought i would never open and check. I decided to tear out everything and do it right. Took me almost two days straight, but i got it awesome. then whenever a rattle pops up, I grab some spare foam padding and stick it between plastics. The guys working at best buy are complete idiots.

That is a good start ^^^ but a lot of things went wrong here...
First my car.... I have an obsession with sadly. It is treated like a family member. It’s like my wife’s and I only child right now. My point to the story is I never let it out of my sight.
The first thing you did wrong was let it out of your sight. I always as to be right next to the car during any time there is work done to the car.
Second thing was you went to Best Buy. Best Buy or Circuit City big no no! I understand if funds were low but... no reason. It is called saving. You could have saved and bought the items you wanted and save to go to a small audio shop to get it installed. If you go to Best Buy or Circuit City you have to know the guy installing the stuff... like a friend.
Third lay the smack down on the manager’s ***! I mean show them that you mean business. I mean really push them into satisfaction guarantee. I think they have a policy like that??? I dunno.
Yes go on the website and look for that address. Do both!!... Send them an e-mail and send some physical mail.
The same thing happened to me couple of years ago and I learned my lesson. What happened was they were going to install a new head unit. But before they installed it I told them that I will be standing next to my car or the car will always be in my sight. Everything was great at this point. Until the installation was done I drove off and turned on my lights and the whole console would not light up! I made the quickest u turn and I told them to fix it. They tried and tried couldn't do it. Talk to the manager... we exchanged words... and the final agreement was I go up to the Honda dealership and get it fixed and bring them the bill. Satisfaction Guarantee.
So good luck.
Which Best Buy?
Hey,
Which Best Buywas this at that you went to? I work at the one down in Murrieta, CA and our installers treat every car like it is their own. As for rectifying the situation, try going to a different one of our stores to have it installed because each one has different standards. I am sorry on behalf of my company because I know how much your cars means to you. Accidents happen when installing stuff, but they should not have happened like they did with your stuff. If you want to, hit me with an e-mail at my company address and I will forward it to the higher ups and see what can and will happen. PM me for the address.
Steve

thanks!
Thanks everyone for your help. I just got back from work and next thing I do will be to call up Best Buy and talk to the store manager. FYI the Best Buy is in Salt Lake City. I'll keep you updated on the progress of the "Satisfaction Guarantee."
as far as the dynamat is concerned thats how 99% of shops will install it. that stupid roller thing costs dynamt 30 cents and they can sale it for 20 bucks. its not useful it just has a huge profit margin.
dont get **** installed at best buy period... the people who work there are just car enthusiasts like us but basically are trying to earn a living at it but doing a crappy job at it...plus, if u read the fine print on the paper u signed it says there is no refund on labor... or it should. if not, sue their ***

that is a good question...why did u go back to the same store for an install..especially after they screwed up multiple times...best thing to do is contact corporate and complain than if they dont give u a refund or compensation contact the BBB about it and tell them u watched them and what not and they still fuked it up
i have NEVER seen a good install done by any store's install bay.....i have been in people's cars where they are so un-observant that they didn't even notice their panels were not screwed back on, etc.....i have seen dash's ruined by repeat "re-installs" because the cheap wire connectors used keep falling off, etc, etc........i would NEVER bring my car to any place......i always do everything myself........i also solder every connection........i doubt any store would do this for you..........
Sorry to hear about your mishap at the BBY in your area. I work at a Best Buy here in Michigan and out install bay guys actually do an awesome job with every car we get in (maybe has something to do with all of out installers have been with the company for over 5 years).
As far as getting things resolved... just talk to the store's GM about it calmly. I can't tell you how many times people could have gotten things resolved if they would have taken a breath and thought about what it was they were about to say.
Again, sorry to hear about your problem... but don't lump in all bad Best Buys with the rest of us. We take pride in what we do.

I used to work at the one in tampa, but now located in gainesville for college and yeah both of those locations, there was only ONE guy outta at each place outta like 5 guys that knew what they were doing. and as far as legal issues go, the most you're gonna get is "sorry" lol best buy is so damn cheap.
